Pernille Teisbaek on Her Favourite Fashion Moment

PENNY McCormick talks Scandinavian style signifiers and stand-out fashion moments with Danish influencer Pernille Teisbaek, finding out why she’s funnier than she seems on social media …

If you haven’t yet shopped the Pernille Teisbaek Mango collaboration we’d advise you to allow yourself a trip down the highly Instagram-approved rabbit hole. Described as “premium urban essentials” Pernille x Mango is filled with the oversized and sleek staples we’ve come to know from the influencer’s highly-curated online presence.

One thing people don’t know about me…

I’m really funny. I’m much more impulsive and vibrant than I appear on social media, where everything has to be so polished. I like to be open, light and I believe I have a good sense of humour. The fashion world can be so serious, which is why having kids is a relief. Since having them (Teisbaek has three sons; Billy, Bobby and Bruce) I have a new set of values and set of priorities. They provide time off from an otherwise very narcissistic job. It feels good to focus on other people.

three things i can’t live without …

I’m obsessed with blazers, though I would have to say a suit worn with a T-shirt and boots are a close second. I also have a pair of vintage Levis I’ve worn to death. I pair them with chunky knits, cool cardigans and boots. That’s more than three but they’re my staples.

The style signifiers of a Scandi wardrobe …

The super minimalist look originated in Sweden, though a lot of things have happened since then … such as Alessandro Michele at Gucci. He has affected the way we all dress and I feel as a Dane, our DNA is quirkier than Swedish style. It’s about combining colours and patterns and always adding something classic. Our wardrobes are easy, comfortable and accessible.

Favourite fashion moment …

I am always impressed by Chanel shows and I remember my first Chanel experience – the AW14 show set in a supermarket. It was insane. After the show we went to lunch and then the atelier to visit the petits mains who work on handstitiching. This was at the beginning of my career and fashion journey and left a lasting memory. Even though Karl Lagerfeld is no longer with us, I hope Virginie Viard will continue his legacy.
