Here’s How To Shop The Sales Like A Fashion Pro

Navigate the sales in a conscious way and you’ll reap the benefits …

Classic Knits

Choose a brand you love or have had your eye on for a while, it’ll make your purchase all the sweeter. Aim for neutral colours like red (it’s very popular right now), black, navy, grey, camel and cream. Look for fabrics such as pure cashmere, merino wool, or a cashmere-wool blend.

Red cashmere crewneck jumper, was €245, now €195; www.whistles.com.

Cream alpaca wool collared jumper, was €99, now €49, at & Other Stories.

Brown soft wool button cardigan, was €280, now €115, at Jigsaw.

Denim To Love

Sometimes, we can neglect those foundational pieces in our wardrobes, swept away instead by more seasonal pieces that satisfy an urge to be on trend. However, jeans are the one thing you shouldn’t neglect – especially if you wear them on repeat! However, I will give you this warning. If you are going to buy jeans online in the sales, then go for a brand you’ve tried before and you know the fit of. A lot of the leading denim brands differ in their sizing, so a size 8 in Frame may not fit exactly the same in, say, Redone or J Brand. Proceed with caution. If you are trying the season’s wide-leg trend, you may get away with sizing up, depending on the brand in question (it often works in some high street stores like Mango).

Blue Le Palazzo cropped flared jeans, Frame, was €280, now €168; www.net-a-porter.com.

Blue mid-rise tapered fit jeans, Goldsign, was €419, now €251.40, at Brown Thomas.

Black organic cotton high rise jeans, Raey, was €190, now €76; www.matchesfashion.com.

Covetable Cover Ups

Yes, we are headed (hopefully) for spring, but the sales are an excellent opportunity to bag a bargain coat. Often, outerwear has the biggest reductions so it’s the perfect time to make an investment that your future self will thank you for next autumn winter. What styles should you look for? It’s going to sound boring but again … go classic. Choose a style that is rather timeless. Think: a camel coat, a classic double-breasted style or a grey coat or blazer that will see you through. Even better if the fabric is wool. If jackets are more your jam, look for always-on-trend biker and bouclé collarless styles in the vein of Chanel.

Black wool blend tie coat, was €179, now €95, at H&M.

Beige tencel trench coat, was €99.99, now €59.99, at Mango.

Navy Kinny double-faced wool coat, was €275, now €199.99; www.aligne.co.
