How To Build The Perfect Summer Capsule, According To A Danish Fashion Insider

Charlotte Eskildsen, creative director of Copenhagen fashion brand The Garment on SS25 dressing …

When it comes to capsule dressing, we can rely on the Danes to come through with dependable and versatile buys that are functional – and foundational – but steer clear of harsh minimalism. Enter: The Garment, the Copenhagen-based label has a passion for renewing vintage references, designing clothes that walk the line between clean, low-key luxury and eccentricity. Here, the brand’s creative director Charlotte Eskildsen, expounds on the best seasonal staple buys and explains why you should always wear a flat shoe to a summer wedding

What is the one hero item in your wardrobe you’re currently wearing on repeat?

Without question, the Kirsten pants in black. Effortlessly tailored, endlessly versatile — they anchor my look with quiet sophistication.

Which classic wardrobe pieces do you always return to for spring-summer dressing, and why?

Every season, I reach for three perennial essentials: a black blazer — sharp yet relaxed, it brings structure to lighter silhouettes; a crisp white cotton skirt — it’s the embodiment of ease and movement; and a white polo — it’s minimal, clean, and endlessly wearable. They’re foundational pieces that breathe with the season while grounding every outfit in simplicity.

Do you believe in a capsule wardrobe? If so, what does yours include?

Absolutely. I believe in dressing with intention. My capsule is both refined and personal. One special piece is the Tanzania dress — something I reserve for summers at my house in the south of France. It holds memories and that makes it timeless.

Danish style is admired around the world. What do you think non-Danes often miss when trying to emulate the look?

Honestly? The bike. Danish style is as much about lifestyle as it is about aesthetics. It’s grounded in authenticity: being proud of where you come from, staying connected to your community and dressing in
a way that allows you to live freely within your city.

Copenhagen is full of great street style. What is the signature item Danish women are wearing now?

The men’s blazer. Oversized, effortless and endlessly adaptable: worn with everything from dresses to denim, it’s the quiet icon of Scandi spring style.

Are there any trends among Danish women right now that have surprised you?

Yes, there’s a subtle shift toward a more sensual silhouette. Think: sheer layers, a hint of skin. It’s still minimal, but with a flirtier energy.

Do you have a personal style mantra?

Borrow from your dad or your boyfriend. There’s strength in menswear — in the oversized fits, the structured lines. It gives you a certain energy — cool, confident, unconstrained.

What SS25 pieces are on your current fashion wish list?

Right now, I’m drawn to boat shoes, a Prada denim jacket and suede bag, Maison Alai?a skirt jeans. From The Garment, it’s the Kirsten pants, Noah blazer and Cyprus shorts in white. These are pieces that feel tactile and directional, but still rooted in simplicity.

What’s the coolest way to dress for a summer occasion such as a wedding or a garden party?

Start with a beautiful dress you can dance in. Add contrast with an oversized blazer or a supple leather jacket. Always choose flat shoes – comfort and confidence never go out of style.

We always want to visit Copenhagen. Which are your favourite hidden gems in the city?

Two come to mind. Bibliotekshaven, The Garden of The Royal Library. It’s a quiet, green escape in the heart of the city. Designmuseum Danmark on Bredgade, for constant inspiration.
