Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery hosted a special viewing party for 250 guests to celebrate the largest Andy Warhol exhibition ever in Ireland …
“Andy Warhol Three Times Out” has been five years in the making and includes more than 250 works on loan from museums and private collections in the US, Canada, Europe, and the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. The exhibition, curated by Barbara Dawson, Director of Hugh Lane Gallery, and Michael Dempsey, Head of Exhibitions, features more than 250 works including the iconic Campbell’s Soup Cans and Marilyn Monroe screen printed portraits.
For the 250 guests invited to the special viewing last week, the opening party did not disappoint and was defined by its details as much as its iconic artworks. The party was supported by Tanqueray for fabulous cocktails, champagne from Bresson Restaurant, burgers from Wowburgers (Andy’s favourite meal), Warhol-inspired desserts from The Merrion, and flowers from Flowerpop. Meanwhile, the photo backdrop of silver reflected Andy’s Silver Factory studio, while DJ Billy Scurry was spinning the vinyl.
Speaking at the event Barbara Dawson told guests, “This exhibition shows how Warhol utterly changed the way the world experiences art. His work explored the relationship between artistic expression and the flourishing consumer culture of the 1960s, new technology and celebrity status, as well as mortality, in a diverse body of works that underpins his artistic genius. As society navigates the age of social media and surveillance capitalism – how our data is being captured and monetised – it is impossible to overlook Warhol’s prescient vision so relevant to us today.”
