Race season is well underway, and with its numerous “Best Dressed” competitions. Arguably one of the best known is that held on Ladies Day at the Dublin Horse Show on Thursday, August 10. Another is the Continentally Classic Best Dressed event, held on the evening of August 10, at the InterContinental Dublin.

Still deciding on what (or who) to wear? The salon show in the ICE Bar of the InterContinental Dublin, which was styled and presented by fashion writer Bairbre Power, brought together a strong cohort of Irish milliners including Carol Kennelly, Emily-Jean O’Byrne, Laura Hanlon, Grainne Maher and John Shevlin. They walked the runway and took part in a discussion on what makes a great hat and winning outfit; most agreed that it’s best to start with a hat, rather than the outfit!

Designer Sharon Hoey closed the evening by sharing an exclusive preview of new looks from her AndTate SS24 collection (above).

Guests who included Mary Kennedy, Norah Casey, Sophie Anderton, Alexander Fitzgerald and former Best Dressed Winner Lawson Mpame (pictured below with model Sarah Morrissey) enjoyed champagne, summer cocktails and canapes created by executive chef Alberto Rossi and his team.

As for the Continentally Classic competition on August 10, this will be judged by Nicky Logue, general manager of the InterContinental Dublin, and Bairbre Power. They will be looking for stylish people who exude “originality and individuality with a continental twist.” Participants have the chance to win a ten-night Mediterranean Cruise for two with Princess Cruises, in addition to a stay for two at several five-star properties including Powerscourt Resort, Co Wicklow and Glenlo Abbey, Galway.
