After yesterday’s government announcement, it appears indoor dining is still out of reach for most. Lucky then, that there are so many beautiful outdoor options available to us. Combine an overnight stay with a luxurious outdoor dining experience at one of these hotels, or simply pop in for a sun-soaked evening cocktail with friends …
The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin
Running until the end of September, The Terrace at The Shelbourne is inviting us to toast the finer things in life, and who are we to argue? We cannot envisage a more pleasant way to spend an afternoon than nibbling on oysters, charcuterie or their famous seafood tower while enjoying a flight of four glasses of champagne from Laurent-Perrier house in the glorious surrounding of The Shelbourne Terrace. For those with a sweet tooth, the chocolate dipped strawberries will work a treat while enjoying a sun soaked afternoon with those you have missed. www.TheShelbourne.com
The Meadow Terrace at The River Lee, Cork
The summer terrace in partnership with Ketel One Botanical and Fox Flowers at The River Club in Cork really is a thing of beauty. The pop up aims to celebrate the beauty and variety of native wildflowers with a canopy of interwoven, repurposed silk wildflowers with planters of rosemary, lavender and other herbs interspersed throughout the terrace, adding a subtle aroma to the air while also supporting natural pollinators. The cocktail menu is ‘climate conscious’ and guests can also take home wildflower seed bombs to plant in their own gardens. The terrace is open daily for lunch and brunch with dinner served in the evenings. www.theriverclubcork.ie
The Garden Terrace at The Merrion Hotel, Dublin
A hidden enclave within the city, The Garden Terrace at The Merrion Hotels is something of a secret garden waiting to be discovered. The hotel has also commissioned six gorgeous outdoor cabanas with garden views, which include individual heaters and sanitised blankets. The Garden Room restaurant also has outdoor tables available for dining. Open for seasonal al-fresco lunch and drinks, the menu has an array of light summer salads, perfect for a balmy afternoon with friends. There is a comprehensive drinks menu to choose from including a range of NoLo (low carb/no alcohol) cocktails to enjoy. www.merrionhotel.com
The Cliff House Hotel, Ardmore, Co Waterford
Open for walk-in guests only, the terrace at The Cliff House in Ardmore has perhaps one of the most stunning vistas in the country. The menus offer a wide selection of local meat, vegetable and seafood dishes, including monkfish, Helvick cod, local crab, and chowder – perfect dishes to enjoy while the waves crash beneath you. The Pantry at Cliff is also open at Ardmore Beach and is the perfect pit stop after tackling the cliff walk. www.cliffhousehotel.ie
The Westbury, Dublin
There is a lot to love about The Westbury this summer with the launch of their stunning new terrace suites which afford jaw dropping views over the city and the dreamy ‘Everything Rosé’ event in Wilde which affords diners the opportunity to try a range of new and exclusive rosé wines. Wilde is currently only open to hotel guests so this could be the perfect opportunity to avoid the crowds and celebrate that missed occasion with a memorable night in a terrace suite followed by dinner in perhaps the prettiest dining room in Ireland. www.doylecollection.com/hotels/the-westbury-hotel
