The Christmas party season may look a bit different this year, but whether you’re having drinks and nibbles virtually, an alfresco buffet within your bubble or a small gathering with family at home, one must-have ingredient is M&S party food … the perfect accompaniment to treating, uniting and celebrating with friends …
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without M&S, especially when it comes to its party food – which always sees us through the festivities to Twixmas, the New Year and beyond. A highlight of our festive prepping is stocking up on these miniature showstoppers – and this year we’re not holding back! In fact there are 300 new lines, all underpinned by M&S’ attention to quality, flavour and innovation. The bonus? Much of the party food range is either frozen or suitable for freezing if you are planning to stock up early.
On the M&S party menu, there’s something for every palate and age group. From posh Scottish Salmon Pastrami, €8, (in store from December 9) – a new take on the classic featuring three slices of salmon cured in sea salt, treacle, honey and mustard finished with black pepper and coriander seeds for a unique texture and taste. They will be added to our trolley alongside King Prawns in Blankets, €10.50; think juicy responsibly sourced Vannamei prawns wrapped in alder-smoked bacon for a festive turf and surf experience.
For meat lovers pick up (several packs) of 10 Mini Beef and Porcini-filled Yorkshires, €10.50, for a taste of a swish Sunday roast in a mouthful. Children, meanwhile, will surely love tucking into Battered Mini Sausages Chip Shop Style with curry dip, €7.50, or the Chicken Doughnut Dippers, €7.50, which come in a nifty doughnut box containing jumbo battered chicken breast “rings” in waffle crumbs with some barbecue sauce on the side.
Last year the mini Cheesy Crumpets and Marmite, €10.50, were a huge hit and are back smothered in Marmite and melted Cheddar. And having unveiled its first vegan Kiev in January, this Christmas M&S has launched frozen bitesize versions with soya-based Kievs perfect for picking at. Our tip: keep a napkin handy.
Of course there are the classic staples we love too – from mini quiches and pizzas to Brie and cranberry bites, not forgetting the versatile Pigs in Blankets, or the new chic Chorizo Pigs in Duvets. The handy thing is that all of the party food is heated at the same temperature so there’s no extra faffing involved with timings.
As for what to serve – a light, refreshing Gavi from the M&S Classics Collection, €11.80, is the perfect partner for seafood starters and canapes or else the Christmas Conte Pruilli Prosecco, €15, a deliciously fresh, crisp crowd pleaser to kickstart a sparkling evening.
The full range of M&S’s Christmas offerings is available in stores now and is worth checking out this weekend with 4for3 available on partyfood. With minimal fuss, minimal washing up (the plates will be empty) all you need to do is heat and serve.
