ON WORK: I started my childrenswear brand, Marie-Chantal, in 2000 while I was pregnant with my third child. It was a juggle at the beginning, balancing work and raising my children – one of them was undoubtedly late for drop-off – but I have always loved my job so being passionate about it, and as organised as possible, helped. Now my children are older, and I am an empty nester, I am really enjoying being fully involved in every aspect of the brand, from design and creative, to marketing and production. It is our 25th birthday next year with lots of beautiful collections launching soon.
ON ROUTINE: I like to start my day with celery juice, followed by a cappuccino from Hagen Espresso Bar in Chelsea and a workout: either a Pilates or spin class. Then it’s straight to work.
ON MY DESK: As a designer, my work space reflects my creativity and attention to detail. I keep it clean, elegant and inspiring. On my desk, you’ll always find a few essentials: sketchbooks, flowers from Flowerbx in little glass bud vases, moodboards with fabric swatches, colour palettes, and inspirational visuals. I also keep favourite items such as an Augustinus Bader hand cream, Bigelow lipstick, and hand sanitiser wipes, within reach. Of course, the tools of my trade are there too – pens, pencils, my iPad, and AirPods. Lastly, a few personal touches – photos of my family and a few cherished keepsakes which keep me grounded and remind me of the values behind the brand.
ON UPCOMING PROJECTS: We have just launched crockery and cutlery collections – two different sets featuring our signature heritage crest and our latest design, the cutest little honey bear surrounded by adorable illustrations, inspired by my book and aptly named The Manners Begin at Breakfast Collection. www.mariechantal.com @mariechantal22
