New hotels and a luxury hostel-style accommodation …
Claridge House, Mayfair
SLO is a new sustainable aparthotel brand at Claridge House, on Davies Street in Mayfair. Posh and private, Claridge House comprises eight one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with impressive kitchens, spacious living rooms, cosy reading nooks and, in some cases, a study area. They are all decorated in soothing colours, with mid-century inspired furniture by British designers including Robin Myerscough and Nicola Harding. Expect a special focus on wellness with Anatomé London scents and amenities, Hypnos mattresses, a special SLO playlist, Nuditea teas and coffee from Arro. A full-time concierge can arrange private chefs, after-hours gallery visits, designer-led shopping tours and tickets for cultural events, including Frieze London, Chelsea Flower Show and Wimbledon. Handily, it’s also close to Claridge’s Hotel where you can enjoy its new bakery treats by internationally acclaimed chef and baker Richard Hart. @stayatslo
The Newman, Fitzrovia
Fitzrovia has always been known for its charming, village-like atmosphere, Georgian architecture and arty residents (George Orwell, Dylan Thomas and George Bernard Shaw among others.) The contemporary Art Deco design and concept of The Newman was inspired by Fitzrovia’s character, especially its bohemian queen Nancy Cunard. She was known for her iconic bangles and polka dots, which subtly permeate the design narrative. Of note is its Gambit Bar where guests can sip cocktails, discover in-house DJs or master their game on regular chess nights. @thenewmanlondon
Bertrand’s Townhouse, Bloomsbury
“The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge,” so believed British mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Prize winner Bertrand Russell. A noted wit and devoted pipe smoker, glimmers of his eccentricity and mischievous spirit are found in this new 43 room townhouse. There are plenty of quiet reading spots, a cigar garden and Ottie’s Salon, which hosts regular jazz sessions. The British Museum, and Bloomsbury cafés and bookshops, are on the doorstep. @bertrandstownhouse
Zedwell Underground Park Lane
Design-led and affordable, the new Zedwell Underground Park Lane offers standout value in an area famously known as the most expensive square on the Monopoly board! It features 133 soundproofed “cocoons” designed without windows to promote rest with ambient lighting, purified air and body-cushioning Hypnos mattresses. There are also self check-in kiosks and a co-working space overlooking Hyde Park. The best bit? You’re moments from Oxford Street, Marble Arch and the park just steps away. @zedwellhotels
