Bako by Amai by Viktor, Harry Street
A more relaxed ‘speakeasy’ sibling to the chef’s tasting menu restaurant, offering either a four course menu or the freedom to build your own meal with interesting dishes like cassava brioche with lovage butter, duck leg crepioca and inventive desserts. All paired with a good wine list and a selection of cocktails.
Little Canton, Lower Stephen Street
Replacing Nan Chinese, Little Canton recreates the bustling atmosphere of a Hong Kong style cha chaan teng, aka casual Cantonese dining. From the team behind China Tang, China Hunan and Hakkahan, expect comforting Cantonese classics, silky noodle soups, barbecue meats, wontons and generous rice dishes, all served quickly in a lively, no-fuss setting.
Lena, Windsor Terrace
The crowds haven’t eased at Lena and for good reason. The menu is packed with dishes that you’ll want to order again, from the bagna cauda and lardo on toast to the lobster cavatelli, grilled halibut and Hannan’s Delmonico steak. Whatever you choose, don’t leave without ordering the sugar-dusted zeppole for dessert.
Orwell Road, Rathgar
Chef Leticia Miranda continues to cook some of the city’s most quietly accomplished food at Orwell Road, the Michelin recommended restaurant from the Bereen brothers, who also own Coppinger and Row Wines. The menu changes with the seasons, but if the pork T-bone with Stonewell Cider jus is on, don’t hesitate. It’s refined without ever feeling fussy and well worth the jaunt.
Chubbys, Clontarf
If you manage to secure a table, Chubbys is more than worth the trip to Clontarf. Chef Barry Stephens’ menu is built around bold, flavour packed sharing dishes, from the famous beef birria and pork carnitas to rotisserie chicken and sticky ribs, all backed up by an excellent cocktail list. Arrive hungry, bring friends and finish with a stroll along the seafront.
MOZZA Pizza, The Wren’s Nest, Strawberry Beds
A pizza and a pint beside the River Liffey is hard to beat on a sunny weekend. Parked outside The Wren’s Nest, MOZZA turns out excellent Neapolitan style pizzas with blistered crusts and quality toppings, best enjoyed at one of the pub’s riverside tables.
