Key beauty staples/old favourites I’m never without …

I enjoy trying out new products, but once I find something I like I tend to stick with it, and there are a few items I’ve been using consistently for over a decade. When it comes to skincare, I never go to bed with make-up on, no matter how late the party ends. I remove it with cleansing oils and balms, followed by a foam face wash and microfibre towel. For years, I’ve been using Clinique’s Take the Day Off cleansing balm (€40 at Marks & Spencer). It’s incredibly gentle on the skin and perfect for travel. I also never skip a serum and moisturiser; I always keep a niacinamide and hyaluronic serum on hand.

Mascara is a must-have for me. You might catch me wearing just sunscreen with no make-up on, but I’ll never be without mascara. Recently, I’ve been using Sculpted by Aimee’s and I absolutely love it! It lasts all day without smudging.

As for body care, my long-time favourite since I was 15 is the Lily Moisturising Satin Body Cream (€26) from a Brazilian brand founded in 1977, O Boticário. In fact, I started my business because of this body cream, so you could definitely say it’s an old favourite I’m never without! Its fragrance is uniquely luxurious, lasting all day on the skin, while leaving it incredibly soft. I usually have many body creams and perfumes open, switching them up based on my mood. However, I always have a Lily cream open, no matter how many other body lotions and cream I have. It’s the one thing I always bring back from Brazil. During the pandemic, all the Lily cream I brought the year before ran out. Determined to have it again, I started a business, focused initially on Brazilian beauty products.

Best beauty investments – what I spend a bit more on that’s worth it …

I invest a lot of time and money in my hair. Years ago, I had a damaging experience at a salon getting highlights. I got a chemical cut (where the bonds in the hair are damaged by over-processing, causing the hair to break off), which resulted in a lot of breakage and hair loss. It took over a year for my hair to recover. After this experience, I started reading a lot about haircare and changed my routine completely; investing in products to restore its health.

I use hydrating hair masks every time I wash my hair and haven’t dyed it in two years. I always apply a leave-in serum before brushing my hair, and use hair oils and serums before bed. I highly recommend the Kérastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum (€44 at Peter Mark). I’ve used it for years as it’s lightweight, has a divine fragrance and leaves my hair incredibly soft.

I avoid any sort of heating tools, opting to simply dry my hair with the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer on a medium setting. With naturally straight and fine hair, I’m still prone to breakage and damage. For me, the Dyson has been one of the best investments for my hair health.

I only curl my hair with the My Lily Silk Curler, and I only sleep on our own silk pillowcases, and use silk scrunchies. Silk, in addition to being incredibly comfortable and luxurious, helps keep your skin and hair hydrated; resulting in shinier and healthier hair. Cotton pillowcases tend to absorb any products or moisture; drying out your hair and causing friction damage. I often joke that, once you experience silk, you can’t go back! It doesn’t just add some luxury to your daily routine, it has so many skin and hair benefits. The immediate results on your hair are noticeable, but the long-term benefits are even more impressive. I haven’t spotted a split end in years, and my hair has never been so full and healthy. Maintaining healthy hair is surprisingly easy and worth it. Nowadays, I can even let my hair dry naturally and be content with the results. Bringing my hair back to life after the chemical cut was frustrating, but now I’ve found an easy maintenance routine.

My most recent purchase …

I was at Dublin airport recently and couldn’t resist the hype of the Sol de Janeiro body splashes. We sell lots of unique perfumes and body sprays, so I rarely shop outside my store, but I’ve already used up half a bottle of the Cheirosa 40 (from €20.40), which has a light and refreshing floral scent, perfect for holiday.

Favourite places to shop for beauty …

Ninety per cent of my beauty items I get at My Lily – I really love what I do! We offer a nice selection from the two largest Brazilian beauty brands.

I’m coveting …

I’ve noticed a lot of people using LED masks and I’m eager to give it a try myself. However, I feel I need to do a bit more research before making my mind up. SkinKrush’s home-use LED masks are available from November 1.

My favourite Irish beauty product …

I really admire Sculpted by Aimee and everything she has created. Voya’s seaweed bath is one of my favourites to detox and relax (€28). I also love the lavender hand sanitiser from Purple Cloud. I found it at a market, and it smells like fresh lavender, so it doesn’t feel like hand sanitiser.

The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table …

I love the Elysee Blanc bottle that resembles a diamond (€55). It smells so fresh, intense and unique. I’ve been wearing this perfume for five years now and often get asked about it.

My home fragrance …

I got the Cloon Keen Étain candle as a birthday gift and I instantly fell in love with the Galway-based brand. This candle has a rich and luxurious fragrance that lasts a long time. Every time I light it, the entire house smells amazing and I can still smell it the next day.

One foundation I swear by …

I’m always trying new foundations, but I keep returning to YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint at Arnotts. It’s lightweight and gives a lovely glow, without feeling heavy.

My beauty ethos …

I believe in beauty as a form of self-care – it’s important to take time to pamper yourself and enjoy some ‘me time’. We need to take care of the body because we are going to grow old in it. www.mylily.ie
