What’s On My Beauty Shelf: Candlemaker Sile Murphy Shares Her Essentials

Sile Murphy, owner of The Fragrant Nest, shares her beauty essentials…

Sile Murphy runs her own small candle company in Co Meath, hand-casting her unique, re-usable and refillable candle holders, using eco-friendly materials. She talks us through her favourite beauty buys:

My key beauty staples – old favourites I am never without…

“Undoubtedly, my permanent make-up essentials consist of concealer and mascara, with eyeliner coming in at a very close third. I always keep all three items in my make-up bag. Since I have small eyes and very light eyelashes, I apply one to two coats of Sculpted By Aimee mascara. I also use her concealer to cover my dark circles; it doesn’t settle into fine lines (which unfortunately seem to be getting more noticeable over time!)

“During summer, my Irish skin requires a lot of assistance. My milk-bottle complexion refuses to tan even slightly. So,  I rely on Tan Organics tanning oil for my face and Sosu Dripping Gold tan in medium for my body when I need a bit of colour. I find these best for a natural look without the risk of appearing orange on my pale skin, and they also fade away evenly over time.”

Most recent purchase …

“Normally I avoid wearing too much lipstick because I often feel that it dries out my lips. However, since I love a lot of her products I decided to try Sculpted By Aimee’s Hydrolip and I must say it’s amazing – it’s a very hydrating lipstick, and I haven’t tried anything better.”

Favourite places to shop for beauty …

“I often find myself shopping for a product when I’ve completely run out and since I usually can’t afford to wait for an online order, I tend to head for the pharmacy during my evening commute. Occasionally, when I am well-organised, I enjoy perusing www.millies.ie for any excellent recommended products.”

I’m coveting …

“Not so much a product that I can own, but I would love to have Profhilo or Morpheus 8 done. If I’m ever getting these treatments done regularly, I know I’ll have made it …! Since neither of these will be happening any time soon, I really want to try Skinceuticals HA Intensifier Serum; I definitely think as I get older my skin benefits from a serum, especially hyaluronic acid.”

The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table …

“My favourite perfume of all time is Givenchy Ange et Demon. It’s both masculine and feminine, and I just can’t get enough of it. The loveliest bottle on my table is Viktor & Rolf’s BonBon – I love the bow shape of the bottle.”

One foundation I swear by…

“My go to everyday item is Sculpted by Aimee Tint & Glow, with SPF30. Although I don’t go out often anymore, when I do I prefer to use a foundation with heavier coverage than my daily tinted moisturiser. Urban Decay’s Stay Naked foundation has been a favourite of mine for years because it strikes a perfect balance between coverage and weightlessness. It’s not too heavy on the skin yet provides just the right amount of coverage.”

Local hero…

“Can I shamelessly promote my own candle company, The Fragrant Nest? I love having one of my candles on display everywhere in my home. The neutral colors of my candles make them a great addition to any colour scheme, and the holders can also double as trinket holders or pots for storing make-up pads when the candle is finished. They add a lovely touch to any dressing table, even if you don’t burn candles there regularly.” www.thefragrantnest.ie
