What’s On My Beauty Shelf: Alyson Hogg Of Vita Liberata

The luxury tanning brand founder and CEO shares her beauty favourites and essentials …

Key beauty staples/old favourites I’m never without: I’m never without SPF – whatever the time of year and whatever the weather – and I always reapply and make sure I use enough. And I’m never without a hat. I am quite obsessed with By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm (€48, at Space NK). I’ve used it for years and can usually find one in the depths of my handbag. It’s a cult beauty product and very indulgent, but it has the most luxurious texture and divine smell. It feels like heaven on the lips and on the skin.

My most recent purchase: I bought RUM Beauty’s Wrap Party Tubing Mascara in navy by Beauty Brits Sali Hughes, Sam Chapman and Jo Jones (€25.95). I was sold on the wand , plus its promise of lengthening and separating the lashes.

Favourite places to shop for beauty: These days, the only chance I get to shop for beauty – or anything, really – is when I’m passing through the airport for work. So honestly, it has to be Duty Free! There’s something fun about the rush, the deals and discovering new favourites between flights.

Favourite Irish beauty product: I recently discovered Ground and instantly fell in love. This is an Irish brand built with integrity, purpose and a commitment to supporting women’s wellbeing. I’m also drawn to its holistic ethos and the gentle reminder to slow down, live more intentionally and reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. And the products are absolutely divine. A personal favourite is the Restorative Face Oil (€48) – pure sensual and skin indulgence in a bottle.

All-time favourite beauty item: Can I say one of my own? It has to be Body Blur (€38.95), my illuminating body make-up. It’s like my baby. No-one’s managed to better it (though many have tried!), and it’s become a go-to for make-up artists on red carpets, at fashion shows and on set. It’s won countless awards and still holds the title as the world’s bestselling body make-up and skin finish. But what makes me proudest is the way it makes women feel – more confident in their skin. It gives that little boost when it’s needed most and that means everything.

I’m coveting: Anything by Westman Atelier! I love the brand’s skin-first approach to beauty as it mirrors my own. All the textures, from the lipsticks to blushes to powders, feel luxurious and dreamy on the skin. And everything is buildable – enhancing what you have, rather that hiding this or contouring that away – and leaving the skin with a beautiful subtle glow.

The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table: Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle, (from €175, 30ml). It’s a room-rocker without being obnoxious. A grown-up fragrance that’s classic but modern and that quietly owns the room and draws everyone to you like a magnet.

My home fragrance: Diptyque candles are a luxury I occasionally let myself indulge in. Their fragrances fill a room without taking it over, just quietly elevating the mood. In summer, I love Figuier (€63, www.notino.ie), a dreamy blend of sun-warmed fig leaves that feels fresh and grounding. In winter, it’s Feu de Bois, a smoky, woody scent that brings instant warmth and comfort. Both are inviting, atmospheric and memorable.

One foundation I swear by: I prefer a light touch when it comes to foundation, especially as I get older. After hearing so many beauty editors rave about Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (€50), I had to see what the fuss was about. It didn’t disappoint: the formula is lightweight, evens out skin tone and gives that natural, radiant finish I’m always after. It sits beautifully on the skin – like your complexion, just better.

My beauty ethos: True beauty isn’t about perfect features or the arrangement of them, it’s about how you show up. When you’re confident and comfortable in your skin, and smiling from the inside out, that’s what people remember. @alysonhogg
