Summer wedding season is in full swing and with it comes a distinct pressure to be the best dressed guest. Thankfully, there’s a lot of inspiration out there to inform your next move. Just look to the fashion fresh off the red carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where bohemian frills (Sienna Miller in Chloé) and sculptural bustier dresses (Alexa Chung in Simone Rocha x John Galliano) were a talking point, and model Laura Bailey, below, looked resplendent in a floor length Chanel floral gown replete with accessories bearing the brand’s trademark CC insignia.

Meanwhile, at a mid-range price point, favoured designer Roksanda Ilincic has just launched another collaboration with British brand Jigsaw. Expect the signature bold, block colours and dramatic shapes the designer is known for except at a more manageable price – we think the ribbon detailed dress from the collection, below, would make for the perfect wedding guest look. Another trend worth noting is that of classic prints reimagined in a striking way: see Rixo’s Abi polka dot dress that comes with a pussy-bow neck-tie, and Kitri’s larger than life floral dresses in striking floor-sweeping lengths and zinging colours (this season it’s all about the brand’s Aurora garden print maxi dress). Australian brands such as Aje, pictured below, are always a go-to for occasion dressing: perhaps because they nail a look that’s pretty and polished with a sense of ease. New to Brown Thomas this season and noted for its special occasion dresses is Acler, the Australian label loved by Beyoncé is a go-to for low-key cool weddings. Style influencer Ciara O’Doherty waxes lyrical about an Acler dress being the perfect day two option for the modern bride. Shop an edit of the best wedding guest dresses below.
