The ‘It’ Skirt Trend Of 2026 So Far? It’s Recycled From Last Year, Actually

Shop the best lace-trim slip skirts from Dôen, Marks & Spencer, Reformation and Arket …

If the slip skirt trend gained traction last year, now it’s dominating. Yes, silk and satin slip skirts are a ‘90s trend that’s always on our radar to varying degrees, but recent iterations have had a glow-up. These days, the best skirts boast a decidedly vintage charm largely thanks to lace-trim details, as well as a proliferation of champagne and cream hues that resemble antique French nightwear.

In the mid-range, Reformation nailed the trend last summer with its Carolina skirt, a champagne midi made from silk charmeuse fabric. Meanwhile, brands like Rixo and Dôen have led the charge with similar vintage-look skirts (and dresses, too). Having purchased the Carolina, the beauty of such a style is that it looks luxurious, no matter what the season. The right slip skirt teams equally as well with flip-flops in August as it does fishnet or sheer polka-dot tights during party season. (FYI: on both occasions, I teamed mine with a white T-shirt.)

For SS26, the style set is embracing the look – and expanding on it. No longer just about plain creams, whites or blacks, the colour palette segues into dreamy pastels. Think: palest pinks, baby blues and softly-printed ditzy florals. Equally, hemlines are rising. Forget the midi, both Reformation and Dôen – plus a host of others on the high street – are embracing lace-trim skirts in mini styles. Irish fashion brand Sinéad Keary offers her signature Orla satin skirt in both lengths. Meanwhile, Marks & Spencer has tapped into 1990s’ nostalgia with its lace-detail knee-length skirt in simple black, designed to be worn with a fuss-free button-up cardigan and minimal black flats in the vein of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy
