A well-chosen body cream can be classified as self-care as you take time to luxuriate in a buttery texture and scent, and banish the dry skin on your arms, legs and elbows from the cold weather. They make a great gift, too. Here’s our pick of the best body moisturisers, from indulgent butters to quick-fix hydrating creams, to help you find a new favourite.

THE IRISH ONES

You want Irish, you want natural, you want a soft and gentle scent? Then take a look at Nature’s Alchemy, a range of skincare designed specially for sensitive skin. The Lavender and Lemongrass Body Butter has a rich, dense texture and melts in without greasiness or stickiness, with a natural scent.

Another Irish option is Voya’s Luxury Body Butter, €43 (200ml); a generous glass pot of lavender and rosemary-scented creaminess that relaxes you, like the sea.

I also like the hand and body lotion in a black tube (recyclable aluminium) by Northern Irish brand Stories Parfums, €26 (60ml) – there’s a bigger refillable bottle available to boot.

THE LUXURY ONE

There are several decadent ones we love, but we’re singling out Chanel’s Coco Noir body cream, which is one of the most decadent and silky creams we’ve ever put on our skin. It has a really rich and expensive scent of velvet-petalled roses and warmly delicious tonka bean. It comes in a Chanel’s iconic black pot and feels like liquid suede on your skin. Body cream does not get more elegant than this. €95 (150g), at counters nationwide.

THE BEST VALUE TREAT

We recently discovered Brazilian brand O Boticário, stocked at My Lily in Dublin’s George’s Arcade, and can’t get over its body cream. It’s highly fragrant – charmingly powdery in a rather classic, old-school way. The scent lingers beautifully and you won’t need to wear added perfume. The texture is really luxurious, with lots of comforting shea butter, and it’s more affordable than it looks, at €26 (250g), in a large glass jar with golden lid.

 THE FAST FIX

Aveeno’s thoughtful oat-powered body range considers practicalities as well as pampering – their spray-on Daily Moisturising After-Shower Mist, for example, is super-quick to apply and absorb into skin, which is just what you need on a cold morning. Just spray and go. But for evenings, when you have a bit more time, plump for the Aveeno Skin Renewal Smoothing Cream, €12; a big pot of buttery skin restoration that’s ideal if your skin is particularly dry, rough or bumpy. At pharmacies nationwide.

THE DAILY DELIGHT

Elizabeth Arden Daily Hydrating Body Lotion, €37 (380ml), is a lightweight cream with avocado oil, shea butter and glycerin to pack in moisture. At counters nationwide.
