It’s perhaps one of the most anticipated high street collaborations of the year: Victoria Beckham’s collection with Mango has landed. It’s also a time of celebration. The fashion designer, who turned 50 last week, has collaborated with the Spanish high street giant which marks its 40th birthday this year, too. (There’s also a new Dundrum store set to open soon.)
The spring summer capsule promises to deliver on Beckham’s trademark blend of a wearable but sophisticated ease. According to Mango, it’s “where deconstructed silhouettes meet high-quality materials, revisiting and elevating the traditional wardrobe staple with a new, modern perspective”.
Key hallmarks of the collection are suiting: there are four suits in total, ranging from classic black and white, to ecru. Jackets are a mix of traditional suit styles, with adjustable belts, as well as versions without lapels. In a conversation with Vogue, Beckham mentioned that she was particularly excited about the suiting and we noted the effortless slouch on the ecru pleated suit trousers below, which have particular appeal. There are also halternecks, dramatic V-neck dresses, slip dresses (perfect for wedding guest dressing), sheer shirts, mixed metal earrings, necklaces and bracelets with chain motifs, and three bags. Sadly, the XL shaped woven bag, a luxe-looking bit of high drama for €180, is already sold out. There’s a crochet maxi dresses, made for the poolside, that, according to Beckham, is a nod to Jane Birkin’s wardrobe in the seminal 1969 film La Piscine.
In terms of fabrics, a lot of the pieces are a blend of synthetics and natural fibres – the suiting is a mix of majority viscose with linen, or polyester with virign wool, which for the price point, one could argue should be working a bit harder. However, pieces like the beige trench coat, below, are 100 per cent cotton while the striking black slip dress, also below, is 96 per cent silk.
