Style setters are getting in touch with their bohemian side this summer, choosing vibrant artisanal motifs like ikat. The exotic pattern, adopted by designers Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, Gucci and Dries Van Noten back in the Noughties, now looks fresher than ever. Elaborate and colourful, these slightly blurred fabrics are created by tie-dying bundles of silk and cotton threads before the fabric is woven. Ikats energise fashion and furnishings – from silk cushions, bedspreads and lampshades to cotton print jackets, linen shorts and dresses.
