This Cult Y2K Bag By Mulberry Has Just Been Reissued

An ‘It’ bag of the Y2K era, Mulberry’s Roxanne bag has been reissued for 2025 with some lush updates …

Fresh from seeing Chloé’s Paddington bag on the runway at the Brown Thomas AW25 preview, there’s another noughties bag set for a comeback: the Mulberry Roxanne. Originally launched in 2004, Mulberry’s Roxanne bag was a bona fide Y2K hit, worn and loved by celebrities such as Kate Moss, Mary-Kate Olsen and Alexa Chung. The vibe was messy chic (meaning: the more love-worn the leather, the better) and playful customisations such as key rings were de rigueur.

After being teased this summer – see: the members of the style set who carried pre-loved Roxannes at Copenhagen Fashion Week, below – the Roxanne has just been re-released by Mulberry, with a plush update. In addition to the hero Roxanne and Small Roxanne bags, Mulberry has added two new styles to the Roxanne family to mark the relaunch: the Roxanne Shoulder bag and the Mini Roxanne.

Staying true to the ‘It’ bag’s rebellious roots, the leather is ultra-soft and the buckles are brass, however the refreshed look is streamlined enough to pull rank in today’s quiet luxury-preoccupied market. It’s not all change, though: in a nicely nostalgic touch, the Roxanne revisits Mulberry’s heritage check lining, a detail which nods to the luxury brand’s British heritage and love of rural pursuits.

With an ethereal campaign shot by Tim Walker, starring Wicked actress Cynthia Erivo, the buzz around the reissued Roxanne is high. And, as fashion month kicks off, it will be interesting to see how the Y2K classic – preloved or new – is given a fresh verve by the style set
