These Rosé Wines Are Perfect For Celebratory Summer Lunches

The wines of the famous Château D’Esclans Estate range are the perfect partners for celebratory lunches and suppers this month …

June is traditionally a month of celebration in the Irish social calendar. If you are planning a special lunch or dinner this month, you’ll be keen to discover the most delicious food pairings for the three wines of Château d’Esclans Estate range, beginning with the eponymous CHÂTEAU D’ESCLANS (€47): A complex and elegant rosé wine with all the sophistication of a Blanc de Blancs champagne, Château d’Esclans is a rosé made from grenache and Rolle (Vermentino) grapes.

It has predominately floral notes followed by red berry fruit, with a touch of vanilla and pear, a smooth and creamy texture and is long on the palate. It goes wonderfully well with ratatouille, a summery salad of apple, walnut and goat’s cheese, beef carpaccio, Quiche Lorraine, chicken with tomatoes and olives and lemon risotto.

Château d’Esclans’ LES CLANS (€75) is closest in flavour profile to a white burgundy like Meursault or Chassagne-Montrachet. A classic wine in the grand traditions, it pairs beautifully with lobster, steak au poivre, cheese soufflé, tuna tartare, sea bass ceviche and terrine of foie gras.

GARRUS (€128) is firmly established as a world class, iconic luxury rosé, rivalling top white wines and prestige champagne. Often served at Michelin-starred restaurants, Garrus has flavours of dried citrus, pear and pineapple, and a creamy finish of rich, spicy notes. Powerful and elegant, it has a toasty flavour and is reminiscent of a vintage champagne, without the bubbles. Made with grapes grown on Château d’Esclans’ oldest and highest vineyards, Garrus goes beautifully with caviar and goat’s cheese, with rack of lamb, roast chicken with sautéed rosemary potatoes, grilled sole with beurre blanc, and côte de boeuf with bearnaise sauce.

Join Château d’Esclans and THE GLOSS for a mini masterclass in rosé wines at Brown Thomas Dublin on Thursday, June 15 at 6pm. Come along and enjoy delicious canapés specially created to accompany the Château d’Esclans Estate range, which will be introduced by THE GLOSS Wine Editor Julie Dupouy. Book tickets here.
