The Stylish Solution To Tidy Messy Bedrooms (And Improve Your Wellbeing)

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PANELLING CENTRE

Make creating a bedroom design that’s stylish, clutter and stress free easy

It’s a fact universally acknowledged that a messy bedroom impacts mood, sleep and mental health. Yet we’ve all been there – life gets busy, you come home from work, a workout class or social gathering and before you know it, piles of clothes, shoes and accessories – countless “I’ll put it away later” items – accumulate on chairs or the floor.

New research from The Panelling Centre uncovers how the “floordrobe” has become too familiar a feature of too many bedrooms. This study was carried out among 750 homeowners and 175 tradespeople to examine the connection between clutter and wellbeing. The results are startling: one in four (27 per cent) are unhappy with their bedroom storage, with over half (55 per cent) admitting to letting clothes pile up.

This all has a negative impact on our overall wellbeing, according to Irish psychologist Dr Clodagh Campbell, also known as The Wellness Psychologist. A disorganised environment and a cluttered mind can overwhelm our brain, impair focus, increase anxiety and stress, disturb your sleep, and even dampen mood and memory. Chaos can limit your brain’s ability to process information because your visual system has a limited processing capacity.

Overflowing laundry baskets and overloaded bedside tables only add to the issue. “The bedroom should be a sanctuary – a place to rest, reset and restore, but when it’s full of clutter it can have the opposite effect,” says Dr Campbell. “That link between our physical environment and emotional state is something I see every day in my work. Simple changes like adding smart storage, decluttering or improving layout can make a profound difference to how we feel, sleep and even connect with others at home.”

Additionally, a whopping 83 per cent of tradespeople point out that homeowners underestimate how much storage they really need in their bedroom. The good news is that the right storage can truly transform a space, says Gary Higgins, General Manager at The Panelling Centre. “We offer clever, customisable solutions that make the most of every room. Whether it’s a built-in wardrobe, walk-in wardrobe or slide robe sets, it’s our goal to help homeowners create spaces that deliver the perfect balance of function and style.”

Unfortunately, disorganised bedrooms can have an adverse affect on relationships and prove to be a romantic turn off. Four in 10 (40 per cent) avoid a date night at home because their bedroom is too untidy, while 2 in 5 (40 per cent) say that they’ve been turned off dating someone with a messy bedroom. Three in 10 (30 per cent) admit that bedroom mess sparks arguments, mostly between partners (76 per cent).

The Panelling Centre is Ireland’s leading destination for fitted wardrobes, kitchens and appliances. Their team of expert designers guide clients through the process; “We believe that the design process should be collaborative, so we take the time to understand your individual needs and preferences before creating a solution that truly reflects you.”

Whatever your interiors style, they have a solution – from the minimalist Murano and Volare sliding systems to the more traditional Alderley wardrobes featuring Shaker-style doors and woodgrain PVC finishes.
