For the September cover, I created an effortless look on Thalia. I really wanted the make-up to be super simple and easy to recreate at home. To complement the clothes that Aislinn had styled Thalia in, we decided that an effortless, easy and straightish hair style together with a really simple make-up look would work best.

For Thalia’s hair I used some Smoothing Infusion hair serum from Martinsson King [a Swedish vegan range that’s new to Ireland], along with some of their JBF Volume Dry Finishing spray to hold the look in place. I used Dyson’s cordless Corrale straightener to get some structure in place.

Thalia has the most magnificent skin, so I wanted to avoid overloading it with make-up. First, I focused on skincare, and put the hydrating Black Rose Mask from Sisley while I did her hair; it added huge amounts of moisture to her skin. When the hair was finished I removed the remainder of the mask; your skin just soaks up what it needs. As the shoot was taking place outside, I added an SPF50 from Nuxe (possibly the most incredible-smelling sunscreen ever).

Thalia does not need any cover from foundation so I used a really light CC cream from iT Cosmetics [at Arnotts] to perfect her skin, and the smallest amount of concealer where needed; I used NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer and applied it with my fingers. To get the super subtle glow on her skin I used a mix of both skincare and make-up: Seavite serum together with some Charlotte Tilbury liquid highlighter, gently patted onto skin where I wanted some sheen.

A matte bronzer to create some structure and mattify areas of Thalia’s skin. I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Bronzer in medium for a soft finish. For the eyes, I applied a cream shadow (by Tom Ford in shade Platinum) as close to the lashline as possible and blended up towards the brow. Then I used the Tom Ford Disco Dust eyeshadow quad to add some definition to the eye shape, with just a hint of sparkle using the glitter shade just where the pupil would be if the eye was open. I added lashings of the new Urban Decay Lash Freak mascara (€23.12 at Arnotts) to create both length and volume to the lashes. At this point I always stand back and look at the face and figure out if I need to add any more colour. I added just a hint of Desire blush from NARS to add a tiny bit of pink, using a huge fluffy brush.

Finally, I chose a lip colour as close to Thalia’s natural lip shade as possible, just to softly define the lip shape but not to enhance the lip size. I used Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 in Angel Alessandra, a gorgeous deeper nude shade. I didn’t use any setting powder so that the make-up would look at fresh as possible. But for a “real life” look I’d add a loose setting powder at the very end to ensure longevity; Laura Mercier makes the best loose powders.
