From surrealist spectacles and gripping thrillers to revealing documentaries, here are the new series to get through this wild weather …
Severance – Apple TV+
Fans were waiting for almost three years for the second season of Severance because Ben Stiller, the executive producer and director, knew that it had to be as bizarrely gripping as the critically acclaimed first season. The leading foursome of Adam Scott, Britt lower, John Turturro and Zach Cherry are back, with Scott expertly acting as our eyes and ears as he navigates this dystopian world. We love their pop-up office at Grand Central Station in New York to celebrate their long-awaited return! What a stunt. We’re also excited to see the legendary Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette make an appearance, plus expect some other new faces including Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Bob Balaban (Close Encounters of the Third Kind). If you love sci-fi, we guarantee that you’ll love this. Catch up this month.

Prime Target – Apple TV+
If, like us, you have been missing Leo Woodall since One Day or White Lotus (which also returns this year and we can’t wait), this is the next series for you. Woodall plays a brilliant post-graduate mathematics student on the cusp of a major breakthrough when he discovers efforts are being made to destroy his work. From student to sleuth to spy, we’re looking forward to seeing him in any capacity. Also starring David Morrissey, Stephen Rea, Jason Flemyng and other familiar faces, this lively new series will take care of our viewing this week. The first two episodes have been released, the next shall be January 29 and the following six shall be released throughout February.

On Call – Amazon Prime
If a cop drama is missing in your life (nothing will ever top Line of Duty, in our humble opinion) and liked watching Troian Bellisaro in Pretty Little Liars, you’ll enjoy her training rookie officer Alex Diaz, played by Brandon Larracuente from 13 Reasons Why (but why is there always an agent Diaz?). The series follows call after call on shift, whether to show the relentlessness of the being in the force, or simply a dramatisation solely for our entertainment. Something worth thinking about as you sit at the edge of your seat during this knuckle-whitening, never-ending series of unfortunate events. This interesting cast also features Lori Loughlin and Eriq LaSalle returning to acting; the latter directing his co-star as she’s seen on screen for the first time since being jailed for that infamous college admissions scandal back in 2019. We’re watching for that alone!

Elton John: Never Too Late – Disney+
In this riveting new documentary, Elton John looks back on his life and his 50-year-long career in an emotionally charged, full circle journey. As he prepares for his final concert in the US at Dodger Stadium, he takes the viewer back in time and recounts his struggles with adversity, abuse and addiction. His inspiring story of overcoming it all to become the music, fashion and global icon he is today will move you to tears. Expect unseen footage from his personal archives, including playing live with John Lennon and more legends, plus all of his most famous hits that will have you tapping your feet and singing along.

Molly-Mae: Behind It All – Amazon Prime
The Love Island star and social media sensation’s docu-series episodes 1 to 3 have been released, with episodes 3 to 6 set to be available in spring. Molly-Mae really does bare it all, with the prime topic being her widely publicised split with her fiancé, boxer and fellow Lover Islander, Tommy Fury. It takes viewers beyond the headlines to uncover the real starlet behind the influencer label, gaining exclusive access into her family life, her new role as a single mum to baby Bambi and launching her own fashion brand, Maebe. We hear directly from her in this no-holds-barred account of the pressures of fame. Even if you’re not a fan, it’s an interesting look into the reality of living in the public eye.

With Love, Meghan – Netflix
Meghan Markle returns to our screens with her new cooking, home and lifestyle series. Set in a rented property especially acquired for the project, this series sees Meghan inviting new and old friends to have candid conversations, while taking part in practical activities. The special guests featured in the eight-part series include her Suits co-star Abigail Spencer, Mindy Kaling and some acclaimed chefs, special friends and, of course, Prince Harry. Is Meghan Markle A Modern Day Domestic Goddess?
Six Nations: Full Contact – season 2 on Netflix, January 29
The producers of Formula 1: Drive to Survive bring fans closer than ever to the 2024 Guinness Six Nations Championship. Viewers will follow the players into the exhilarating world of the oldest and greatest annual international rugby tournament, giving fans an insight into behind the scenes moments as the best teams in Europe battle it out in some of the biggest matches in the rugby calendar to take home the prestigious trophy. Expect insight into the home life of Peter O’Mahony and family, renowned for his gardening as well as rugby. In the trailer the Irish flanker holds up his gardening sheers and says, “Ready for war.” We’re not even sports mad and we’re looking forward to this!
