This season, texture and layering are the twin styling tools to tap into to modernise your look. If you have hang-ups about how textures don’t “go” together, drop ’em now. Wear a nubby tweed jacket with a fluffy mohair argyle sweater, a plaid merino waistcoat over a crisp cotton shirt, a fine knit polo-neck sweater underneath a bouclé jacket, and cosy coloured tights peeping out over knee-length boots, snug under a wool or leather pencil skirt. Not only will these combinations keep you warm through autumn and winter, they will also transition into an Irish spring. Just lose a layer! We loved Max Mara’s ankle-skimming tweed coats with power shoulders layered over fluffy wool twinsets, and the cool, classic 1940s vibe at genius jacket label Blazé Milano, above.
