Putting your foot down …
Now that summer is here, it’s time to step into something a bit more feminine other than the tired sneakers, house slippers, chunky Dad sandals and teacher-approved Birkenstocks we’ve inflicted on them for all of lockdown. The biggest sandal trends spotted on the runways in New York, London, Milan, and Paris? This season is awash with minimal, heeled flip flops with details like asymmetric straps and sculptural elements. Black, white and bright shades of sunny yellow and hot orange on repeat. Espadrilles have been taken to new heights. This time around with extra-thick flatform soles and lots of sparkle. Shoe embellishment, of the chain variety, is another big story. Ankle chain bling has been added to most flat sandals. Square toes, padded uppers, knotted and woven details all followed on from last season. You’ll find the stores are packed with 90s-inspired sandals with fine wrap-around ankle straps and plenty of chunky soled vertiginous platforms too. Here’s our edit of the best sandals to have on your radar …
