Our Easy, Elegant New Year’s Eve Plan

Before the kitchen disco gets underway, we’re serving up this New Year’s Eve feast for two from M&S …

New Year’s Eve celebrations may look a little different this year but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the occasion memorable or taste incredible. We’re popping on a party dress, setting the scene with some candles and twinkly fairy lights, and bringing the restaurant home by picking up M&S’ delicious Dine In For Two offer, available in store from December 28. There’s a choice of top quality Best Ever and Gastropub dishes paired with luxury bubbly. This incredible €20 offer includes a main course, a side, either a starter or dessert, and a choice of wine, soft drinks or a box of choccies. No, that’s not a typo – we said €20!

What’s on the menu? Well, there’s something for every palate including vegan and vegetarian options too. For starters, why not go all out? It will be hard to resist the oak fired melting camembert which is ready to bake and is gloriously gooey and perfect for dipping. Alternatively traditionalists may prefer Our Best Ever prawn cocktail, or how about the shredded duck croquettes with a cherry hoisin dip? The Plant Kitchen mushroom parfait is a stylish entrée which is served with a red onion chutney, perfect for vegans.

The choices for main courses are also tempting and include a vegan butternut, almond and pecan nut roast served with a delicious red wine and thyme gravy. Steak lovers will enjoy the full-on flavour of the 21 days aged sirloin steaks with a side of triple cooked chips perhaps, or one of Our Best Ever steak pies which has been slow cooked with tender beef and smoked bacon and handcrafted pastry. You can also pick up Our Best Ever chicken kiev (think tender chicken breast with a wild garlic and butter filling coated in crispy sourdough breadcrumbs). And for pasta enthusiasts there’s a choice of Our Best Ever macaroni cheese with a mix of cheddar, pecorino, Emmental and mozzarella, or a rich luxurious lasagne. Both can be served with a red onion and fontal cheese pantofola, while other sides include some extra fine asparagus, a decadent truffle potato mash, peas and carrots in mint butter, potato gratin dauphinois and creamed spinach.

To finish on a sweet note, there is an indulgent Gastropub sticky toffee pudding. This is the ultimate comfort food – a fluffy all-butter sponge with sticky soaked dates and a caramel sauce with a hint of coffee and a crunchy pecan topping. For chocoholics, the choice of a chocolate melt-in-the-middle pudding or some Billionaire’s desserts will pose a dilemma, while the slices of tarte au citron are classic, refreshing finales.

With the menu sorted, the occasion demands some festive fizz. M&S’ Conte Priuli Prosecco hits the right note of fresh and off-dry and is made by the Dal Bianco family (who have been making wine in the Prosecco region for 70 years). This pairs well with the chicken kiev and prawn cocktail, as does the Driftwood Cove New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Meanwhile, the Facon Grabado Argentinian Malbec is a rich flavourful red with top notes of plums, black cherries and vanilla. For “pink ladies”, there’s also a choice of a Coteaux Varois rose or a Conte Priuli Prosecco rose too both fruity with floral aromas. These wines and bubbly are all included in the Dine in For Two offer as well as the option of soft drinks. While the wine is chilling and the main courses are heating in the oven, all you have to do is Instagram your tablescape and raise a class to 2021. Cheers and bon appetit! @marksandspencerireland
