From Sloaney staples to athleisure favourites, these six pieces embody Lady Diana style – and make for perfect winter wearing …
We may be a little bit done with Diana biopics – are you? – but, it seems, we’re still not done with aping the iconic royal’s style. In fact, from all the recent fanfare (good and bad) surrounding Kristen Stewart’s turn as Diana Spencer in new release Spencer (pictured above, out today), there has been one consensus: the clothes look gorgeous.
In a move to make any Sloane proud, US designer Batsheva has dived into the archives of Laura Ashley (loved by Diana and friends in their 1980s heyday), reviving old prints and shapes for a romantic collection. The pieces are a definite throwback, but somehow feel right in the winter of 2021, too.
Meanwhile, purveyor of tongue-in-cheek slogan jumpers Gyles and George has revived its capsule collection, of which an irreverent ‘I’m a Luxury Few Can Afford’ sweater was loved by Diana, pictured above.
In the spirit of Lady Di dressing, we’ve pulled together six pieces loved by the princess that are pitch-perfect for autumn winter 21.

THE SLOGAN JUMPER
Gyles and George has revived its collection of slogan jumpers, like this irreverent one Lady Diana wore, for 2021. Lambswool sweater, €264; www.gylesandgeorge.com.
THE SLOANE BLOUSE
Designer Batsheva has raided the Laura Ashley archives for a 2021 update on the classic brand. Cotton blouse, Batsheva x Laura Ashley, €157; www.matchesfashion.com.
THE CREAM TURTLENECK
Big on the catwalk at Givenchy, Hermès and Tory Burch, take a leaf out of Diana’s style book and layer a turtleneck under an athletic sweatshirt or a statement blazer. Esther long sleeve top, Samsoe Samsoe, €39; www.zalando.ie
THE ZIP-UP
Nothing says laid-back sporty like a luxe zip-up. Diana Spencer certainly favoured one – and we do, too. Merino wool funnel neck, Soeur Nietzsche, €305, at Costume.
THE BOXY BLAZER
A sharp-shouldered blazer fits as much today for the ‘gram as it did for Diana on the school run. Checkered wool blazer, Acne, €830; www.net-a-porter.com.
THE REVENGE DRESS
Unsurprisingly, a form-fitting, off-the-shoulder dress – much like the Christina Stambolian number Diana wore to a Vanity Fair party in 1994 (the night Charles admitted to his adultery with Camilla on national televion) – has as much cache 27 years later as it did first time around. Tulle and silk organza dress, Khaite, €2,410; www.net-a-porter.com
