Your Practice, Your Choice: Sault Ste. Marie, Canada is Ready to Welcome Irish-Trained Family Medicine Doctors

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SAULT STE. MARIE

Find the perfect work-life balance in one of Canada’s best adventure towns …

Carrie Stewart has lived in Sault Ste. Marie all her life. She bikes, skies and hikes avidly, and after a day in the office, she can easily transition to the nearby trails, just ten minutes away, to enjoy any of these pursuits in beautiful natural surroundings. This is a lifestyle Stewart promotes through her role as a Physician Recruitment Specialist for Sault Ste. Marie.

Last November, Stewart visited Dublin to attend a doctors job fair, during which she met many physicians and was able to promote Sault Ste. Marie’s work-life balance and its access to incredible outdoor amenities. “There is literally an outdoor adventure for every season. We have access to beautiful lakes, mountainous terrain, amazing vistas, beautiful hardwood forests, waterfalls and a vast variety of trails,” says Stewart.

As well as an opportunity to explain Canada’s work-life balance, the job fair provided Stewart with a chance to communicate the recent positive licensing changes in Ontario, Canada for Irish-trained physicians. “Family Medicine Physicians trained in Ireland are now eligible to work in Ontario, Canada through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) with a restricted independent licence without assessment, supervision, or exams,” says Stewart. “The Sault Ste. Marie Physician Recruitment Programme offers support to international physicians throughout licensing, immigration, and settlement processes. We are ready to welcome Irish-trained family physicians!”

Sault Ste. Marie family medicine practice stands out uniquely from every other practice in Canada with its multi-specialty ambulatory care operating model, the Group Health Centre. The model offers doctors a chance to concentrate solely on practising medicine, leaving many of the business and administration duties of running an office to others. The Group Health Centre is a turn-key operation, free from overhead expenses. Physician members also receive many benefits including paid vacation, study breaks and sick leave, something not available to physicians who practise independently. “The multi-specialty model is a great example of a collaborative environment with support and programmes required to ensure well-rounded patient care along with physician wellbeing,” says Stewart.

If you are considering a move to Canada, Sault Ste. Marie is the place you want to be!
