"In my 40s, the focus has shifted to futureproofing. My pension is a bigger priority than ever as I maximise AVCs (Additional Voluntary Contributions) while continuing to balance my mortgage, a rainy-day fund, and the growing costs of raising a pre-teen and teenager. I'm much more aware of the returns I'm earning – both on savings and investments – and focused on making my money work harder. At the same time, I recognise that my future earning potential is more defined, so managing it well is more important than ever."
