How to Nail Waist-Up Dressing for Zoom Calls

Hosting a Zoom call this Easter Sunday? As we continue to keep up with our social-distancing pledge, there is just enough time to get ourselves, the dining table or kitchen counter corner Zoom ready.

You can dress up your favourite spot for family and friends video calls with just a few well-chosen accessories. Make sure not to position yourself under harsh LED downlighters, day (natural light is great: front-facing light, not when it is coming from behind you) or night, turn on table lamps to add a softer layer of light (place them on your good side!) and for extra ambience, add a candle. Adjust your screen brightness as it is also a large source of light.

Test your video before the call and then, position your phone, laptop or desktop at the right height in order to achieve a flattering video angle (even your nearest and dearest don’t want to see straight up your nose), straight-on at eye level or higher is best. Use books to build up the height. Staging accessories? Fresh flowers, a candle, a white tablecloth (it bounces the light onto your face and is most flattering according to Mr Tom Ford) and bring out your best glassware for all to admire, sure what are you waiting for?

Next, get dressed! Throw on your favourite feel-good blouse and a knock-out pair of earrings and a slick of lipstick. The more accessories the better. “Jewellery is not only about how you look but it can totally lift your mood and make you instantly look and feel glamorous, happy and dressed up, now more then ever is time to wear your statement jewellery more as you can mix it with your casual sweaters to instantly elevate your daytime look,” says Louise Stokes of Loulerie.
