it’s the details which will make the difference this year …
This season is all about layering: your underthings, that is … Wear Uniqlo’s Heattech thermals under party dresses or jeans – Jasmin Sewell gave THE GLOSS this top tip years ago and it has saved the day (and night) on many occasions. M&S thermals are also top notch as are its long thermal socks – perfect under bright cheerful Hunter wellies, which now come in fun colours from yellow to pink (on sale at Avoca). If you are curating a rustic outdoor theme – or have a barn at your disposal, these will be perfect. You may not be going skiing this year but use the gear for an Aspen or Courcheval-themed al fresco event, complete with raclette or fondue tastings. Uggs are having a comeback, and will work a treat with ski jackets. Instead of investing in partywear this year many of us will forfeit the sequins for something more serviceable. Regatta’s glam new velour jackets come in rich burgundy, soft vanilla, dusty pink and pewter. The new Kimberley Walsh eight-piece collection has the super-soft crushed velour padded Elbury bomber (€80) as well as the Lustel (€110) a shorter jacket, in high-shine metallic fabric with featherweight insulation. In keeping with the theme of a micro Christmas – it’s the details which will make the difference this year – add a new pair of Inner Island earrings perhaps, a pearl-encrusted turband (a cross between a hairband and a turban) or a bright cashmere scarf.
