Going Out or Staying In? Just Get Dressed Up, For Goodness’ Sake!

At Dundrum Town Centre this Christmas, there are so many collections and designers to choose from, everyone will find the perfect festive fashion piece …

There may be some doubt about what sort of Christmas celebrations we are going to enjoy but the cancellation of bigger gatherings shouldn’t preclude us getting dressed up to go out, or stay in. In fact, it feels like absolutely the right time to put on a special dress, a chic blouse, and a fabulous pair of heels, even if you are only going as far as the front door to let a small number of friends or family members in.

Pink ombre sequin blouse, €75, at River Island.

One thing is sure – gorgeous festive fashion will boost morale, lift spirits, and help get the party started, however select (and Covid-compliant) that gathering might be. And if the party goes back on Zoom, we need to fully embrace a dress code of “Sparkly Top Half” with something flattering and fabulous, the most glamorous earrings you can find, and a slick of bright lipstick.

We know “dressing up” means something different to every woman. At Dundrum Town Centre, there are so many collections and designers to choose from, everyone will find the perfect festive fashion piece.

Savannah cream cotton cord blazer, €324; matching trousers, €216; both at LK Bennett.

Depending on her style, one might choose a slinky little slip dress with embellished trim (try Pinko at Harvey Nichols) a full-length burgundy velvet sheath with plunge neckline (look out for the Loni gown at Folkster), a chic buttercream corduroy suit (at LK Bennett).

Burgundy velvet Loni dress, €169.95, at Folkster.

At Irish concept store Folkster, the gorgeous Loni dress is just one of several elegant options – we love the Rian gown, a sleek sheath in olive or rust, which ripples to the floor from shoestring straps, with a crystal half belt at the waist. Also at Folkster, the Cassie wrap sweater and tulle skirt with feather belt, in the softest rose pink, is demure and completely divine.

Tweed jacket, Anine Bing, from a selection, at BT2.

Another woman will channel French girl cool and select and an Anine Bing herringbone tweed double-breasted blazer with gold buttons. Worn with black jeans or velvet pants and simple gold jewellery, it’s just the extrovert side of understated.

Shirt dress with rose motif, Pinko, €380, at Harvey Nichols.

Another will find a classic dress in a romantic dark floral print at Hobbs or at Pinko (at Harvey Nichols). Whether she wears it with elegant heels, velvet Mary Janes or chunky tractor-sole boots, it will be as pretty as a picture. Some of us are susceptible to shine and we will be making a beeline to Hobbs as well, where the sweetest swing dress will make us feel like dancing, even if it’s just around the kitchen table.

Star earrings, from a selection, at River Island.

And her friend will find her party look at River Island – a very cool sequined slip dress or a bronze silky blouse with a flattering sheen. And at River Island too, a huge range of party shoes, little evening bags and sparkly earrings to accessorise all of the above.

Discover partywear gold, and fabulous accessories, at TK Maxx.

And from bags to boots to shoes to gloves to hair accessories, Tk Maxx is as usual the treasure trove of great fashion finds. Now all you need is a pair of Valentino Rockstud pumps or sandals, at Harvey Nichols. Perhaps Santa will bring those, just in time for Christmas Lunch …
