What We’re Wearing And Watching This Autumn

Accessorise yourself this October!

While we may limped through September in the dregs of our summer wardrobes, dodging the raindrops (or deluges) in cotton dresses, raincoats, with shivering bare legs, October brings proper sock-and-sweater weather. Time to layer up and have a bit of fun accessorising this season’s rather sober, understated clothes with scarves, gloves and jewellery, with inspiration in THE GLOSS October Issue.

LAYER IT: The F&F collection at Tesco features seriously smart accessories.

CHECKING IN: Check shirts have taken over. How to wear? Wrap around the waist with otherwise neutral layers.

SHARPEN UP: Time to upgrade your work tote? Louise Kennedy’s Kennedy 26 black leather tote fits the bill.

PARTY BAGS: Retire your classic leather clutch for now – add interest with a (faux) snakeskin bag.

THE T-BAR IS BACK: The classic T-bar necklace returns. London designer Lucy Delius are set with diamonds.

GROOVY, BABY: Macbees in Killarney is throwing a 1970s-themed party on October 9 to celebrate the arrival of Terry de Havilland’s new shoe collection.

GWYN IS IN: Gwyneth Paltrow launched a new fashion label at New York Fashion Week, with Gwyn-embossed courgettes at the launch.

CATCHING: The Lee Miller retrospective at Tate Britain, revealing the model turned war photographer’s extraordinary career. Until February 2026.

DRAWN OUT:Picasso: From The Studio” at the National Gallery, a major exhibition in collaboration with Musée National Picasso, Paris, places the artist in the context of his studios, highlighting the many eras of his work and life.

DANCING IN PLACE: To the new Bruce Springsteen biopic, in cinemas October 24. Starring Jeremy Allen White, it chronicles the making of the 1982 “Nebraska” album.

BOOKING AHEAD: For Cork City Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake at the Cork Opera House (November 6-8), which promises a unique twist on the classic story.
