10+ Coats To Embrace Trench Season

The new shapes! Textures! Such styling opportunities! Not everyone suits a classic trench – you may find them too ubiquitous or the traditional stone beige shade too draining on your complexion. Not all trenches are made equal, either: this is something that has become apparent over the last few seasons thanks to fashion’s preoccupation with luxurious staples. The more basic the cover-up, the more the cut, weight of the material or the length have to be just right.

Trench options run the gamut from classic to contemporary by way of playful shapes (and a pinch of To The Manor Born dressing). The current vogue for barn and worker jackets has seen hero utility touches creep into trench dressing, from corduroy collars and moody shades with water-repellent fabrics that speak to a trench and wax jacket hybrid. A retro take on the trend is the classic car coat, which sees stalwart beige coats assume a more polished look with a straighter fit.

Meanwhile, the host of shorter shapes feels refreshing. (Note Sézane’s shorter length Gabrio jacket with its removable hood: a sure sell-out.) Lastly, thank the ongoing love affair with suede for the number of textured options on the market.
