Director Matthew Vaughn’s new spy action thriller Argylle debuted at the Stella Cinema, Rathmines where guests included Fair City’s Karl Bowe and Lynseyann Mulvey, Eileen Dunne, current star of Dancing with the Stars, and some other familiar faces including Elaine Crowley, Paul Ryder, Lynn Kelly and many more.
Argylle has been described as a “razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller.” It stars an impressive ensemble case of Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara and Samuel L Jackson.
The plot revolves around Elly Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books – which centre on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate – begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organisation, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.
Alfie is played by Chip, the real-life cat of supermodel Claudia Schiffer (wife of Matthew Vaughn). Indeed at the London premiere of Argylle, Claudia and Chip stole the show. Claudia, wearing a Versace gown, carried Chip in a matching argyle-patterned back pack complete with air holes and a perspex dome.
The photos are shared on Chip’s Instagram account (@chipthecat) which reads: “All about being the centre of attention …” Chip later clarified that he had auditioned for the role and got “the role fair and square.”
As cat lovers (or ailurophiles) we’re keen to see the film which is in cinemas nationwide from Thursday, February 1.
