Glossip: Boodles Host A Gold Party

Celebrating 100 years of The Cheltenham Gold Cup, with a special party at Boodles Dublin…

The Gold Cup is the most iconic trophy in horse racing, presiding over the upper echelons of jump racing since 1924. To mark the centenary of the Cheltenham Gold Cup – now the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup – Irish and British racing royalty travelled from far and wide to gather on February 6 at Boodles’ Grafton Street showroom to celebrate.

With the solid gold Gold Cup itself on display (to be admired but not touched … save by a winner of the race!), it was the perfect opportunity for Boodles to unveil its new equine-inspired collection, fittingly named ‘Lucky’ (naturally, the stunning pieces include a take on the lucky horseshoe), in platinum and diamonds.

For many, winning the Cup is a lifetime obsession – to claim the title, to be crowned champion chaser of the year, is to be forever known as a racing legend. As champagne flowed, Gold Cup winner Ruby Walsh entertained guests with a fascinating account of the Cup, Irish domination of the racing world and the unstoppable force of Irish jockeys, trainers, horses and of course, owners.

As well as captivating interviews with racing luminaries including Willie Mullins, Dickie Johnson, Barry Geraghty and Jessica Harrington, Ruby took the mic to Audrey Turley, owner of Galopin Des Champs, and jockey Paul Townend, who together secured the glorious Gold Cup crown last year and who will be defending the title in the race this year.

For the host of this memorable occasion, director of Boodles Michael Wainwright, the money is on the Irish to bring home the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup on March 15 this year. Lucky for some!
