Glossip: All-Star Glamour At The IFTAs, By Top Irish Hairstylists

These are the red-carpet hairstyles inspiring us for spring …

At the IFTA awards last night, it wasn’t just the clothes that were inspiring (we especially loved Caitriona Balfe’s sleeveless white @standing_ground_ outfit, by Irish designer Michael Stewart). As well as the best-dressed, there were also the best hair-dressed, with some inspiring styles on show, created by some of our best stylists. Dyson were the official hair partner at this year’s event, held at Dublin’s Convention Centre.

Standout styles include Caitriona Balfe’s – she’s lucky enough to get her hair done by Limerick’s own Gareth Bromell, and always has a great ‘do. “Caitrona’s new hair haircut is inspired by my favourite haircut of the seventies – the shag. It’s short with heavy bangs and carved out layers. I used the Dyson Airwrap multistyler with its new diffuser attachment [launching this summer] to create a sexy lived-in texture.” It’s a style that looks fresh and sharp for spring – and makes us want to go for the chop.

Bromell used the new Airwrap diffuser attachment to create Sharon Horgan’s waves, too. “Sharon’s hair is an effortless undone LA texture for the awards. I used the diffuser attachment to enhance her natural texture and finished with the Corrale hair straightener to add face-framing bends to give it a funky edge.” See his behind-the-scenes footage on Instagram @garethbromell.

Dyson’s Global Brand Ambassador, Dylan Bradshaw used the distinctive new Supersonic Pro hairdryer (launching in May) on attendees such as Eve Hewson and Kerry Condon; it’s lightweight and super-fast. “We decided to keep it simple with Eve and went for a classic blowdry using the Dyson Supersonic r pro hairdryer to give it lift. It was a minimalist timeless look.”

Naturally, Cillian Murphy took home the best actor award. Bromell has been working with the actor throughout the awards season. “Cillian’s hair is a little longer now than when I styled him for the Oscars using Dyson’s Supersonic r hairdryer. The key for me is to create a great texture with a little volume. I used the diffuser attachment this time, to add volume and lived-in texture. Cool and undone looking – a little 60s rock n roll! It really suits him.”
