From Hotel To Home: Ten Treats To Enjoy This Valentine’s Day


We may not be able to visit our favourite hotels around the country, but we can support them this week. With gift ideas and special menus, here are some ideas for Valentine’s Day …

The Shelbourne has a range of treats on offer from its luxury Exotic Woods candle, created for the hotel by Cloon Keen, €35, to a beautifully boxed afternoon tea for available for collection or delivery every day of the week. Its Classic afternoon tea for two is available for €100, Champagne afternoon tea is €170. Or you could send a beautiful bouquet created by The Shelbourne’s head florist Mary O’Reilly. She and her team will be putting together fabulous flowers in delicate pastel gift bouquets for Mother’s Day or classic roses for your Valentine, from €50;

Ghan House, Co Louth is offering a three-course menu this week which includes oysters, Beef Wellington and tarte au citron. To ensure pick up on Friday or Saturday this week, order by 3pm tomorrow, February 10. All items come with full instructions to finish off in the oven or heat under the grill. From €32 per person;

Castle Grove Country House, Co Donegal, is offering a three-course meal, from €40 per person. With a choice of starters, main courses and desserts, the menu finale is chocolate-dipped strawberries and shortcake as a Valentine’s treat. It will be available from February 12 – 14, with collection from 6pm – 9pm. A selection of wine, prosecco and champagne is also available;

The Merrion’s “Love Tea”, priced at €35 per person, is a lovely surprise to send to a friend or family member. Enjoy a menu of selected teas, tasty sandwiches, scones, tea breads and chef Paul Kelly’s special “Love” pastry creations. You can enhance the experience and add a Merrion Rose bouquet of flowers or a bottle of Henriot Rosé Champagne for the exclusive price of an additional €55 per item;

Currarevagh House, Connemara has a special Valentine’s Box for Two, to be collected on Saturday, February 13. The box includes a bottle of cava – the elegant Villa Conchi Sparkling Rosé. On the menu is a delicious shellfish box containing Connemara lobster on the shell; Galway Bay brown shrimp mayonnaise; Clew Bay scallop ceviche all served with accompaniments and starters. As a finale, there’s a chocolate and hazelnut meringue dacquoise, rhubarb fool or a refreshing blood orange crisp. Each box is €120. Last orders are February 9;

Enjoy The Westbury’s “Bubbles and Cake” experience in your own home, with both delivery and click and collect options available. A twist on the traditional afternoon tea, choose one of two delicious champagnes – Perrier-Jouët Blason Rosé or Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut. Both pair beautifully with the selection of desserts including a strawberry shortcake and a peach Melba. The team of chefs at The K Club, Co Kildare, has created a special four course menu, from €37.50, to make this lockdown Valentine’s feel special. Pre-order online now for collection on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The menu comprises a jumbo prawn cocktail or chicken Caesar salad, with main course options being a fillet of beef or salmon. As for dessert, it’s a banana and passion fruit tart. Extra treats include a selection of chocolates and macaroons;

Ashford Castle’s online boutique “Mrs Tea’s” has a great edit of Irish products at every price point from €12 upwards. Gifts under €200 include The Lady Ardilaun gift hamper, with delicious bakery products, €75, an Elemis Gift Set from the Spa collection such as the Pro Collagen Super Stars, €198, or limited edition Ashford Castle Tea Set, €125. Chef Keith Pigott from No1 Pery Square, Limerick has created a special three-course Valentine’s menu from €35 per person sharing, which can be pre-ordered from today, Tuesday February 9, for delivery at the weekend. Tempting entrees on the menu include Thornhill duck rillettes, Bally goats cheese bon bons, roasted monkfish with prawn and fennel bisque as well as a trio of desserts served as a sharing platter. Wines can be added, as can a Voya organic seaweed bath soak, €25;
