Get into the Christmas spirit with these mouth-wateringly moreish turkey and ham, brie or vegan sandwiches to tickle your fancy …
Greenville Deli, Rathmines, Monkstown, Inchicore, Goatstown, Dublin
The famous Greeneville Christmas Special is a must-try in the lead up to Christmas, in three locations in Dublin. If you favour a toastie over a sandwich, then this one is for you. Featuring roasted turkey, hand-carved ham, parsley, sage and onion stuffing, brie, pickled red cabbage, cranberry sauce and mustard mayo on sourdough, the Christmas special also comes with a side of Greenville homemade cranberry aioli dip (no kissing under the mistletoe after that!) and a small bag of crisps. Greenville also do a vegan Christmas sandwich which is equally as delicious. Opening times depend on location. @greenvilledeli
Carved, Grand Canal and Ballsbridge, Dublin
Carved’s Christmas roll may be in the top spot for the most popular Christmas sandwich this year. ‘Sandwiches by Chefs’ is Carved’s slogan, so we certainly believe it. Skilled chefs are at the heart of everything they serve, from delectable pastries to moreish sandwiches. Filled with carved turkey, baked ham, pickled red cabbage, homemade sausage stuffing, brie and cranberry sauce served with a side of gravy to dip or pour. Epic! You can also order it to deliver straight to your door on Just Eat if you’re in the vicinity of either café. Opening times at Grand Canal are Monday to Friday 8am to 3pm and Ballsbridge, Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm, and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. @carvedsandwiches
Grove Road, Rathmines Road Lower, Rathmines, Dublin
The Christmas Sandwich at Grove Road is worth a stop on the way out of town, post shopping. Sage brown butter, turkey, honey glazed ham, house cranberry sauce, red onion and cheddar, all on Tartine organic sourdough make this a pure delight! Open seven days a week, with the kitchen open until 3.30pm, this special sandwich is available on weekdays until December 23. @groverroad
Poulet Bonne Femme, Suffolk Street, Monkstown and Blackrock
The Ho-Ho-Ho Sandwich from Poulet Bonne Femme really shows us the difference fresh ingredients make. This is a mouth-watering (albeit potentially messy) sandwich made with turkey and ham straight from the rotisserie, fresh leaves, Poulet’s own cranberry sauce and fluffy bread stuffing – plus mayo and mustard to act as the glue that brings it all together. Grab a napkin and dig in! Suffolk Street is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, Monkstown and Blackrock are open Monday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm. @pouletbonnefemme
Urbanity, Smithfield
Urbanity has a Christmas duck sandwich or an amazing vegan option if you wanted to go for something a little different this year. The Christmas Quacker includes confit duck leg, Brussels sprouts and cranberry slaw with orange vinaigrette, duck fat and plum aioli, potato hashbrown, chestnut and sourdough stuffing on Tartine sourdough, served with a side of duck and red wine jus.
The vegetarian option is a Mushroom Mornay Toastie which includes sautéed mushroom, mornay sauce, chestnut and sourdough stuffing, pickled shallots and rocket, also on Tartine organic sourdough. Both sandwiches are served with mixed leaves, shredded Brussels sprouts and a cranberry salad with a tangy mustard dressing. Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 4pm. Just set aside time for a nap afterwards! @urbanitydub
