Expert Advice On Bridal Make-Up From The Wedding Salon

Top tips for brides and the wedding party …

The Wedding Salon at The Merrion is an annual highlight in THE GLOSS calendar. At this year’s event, in association with Hyundai, host and wedding planner extraordinaire Tara Fay provided expert advice for the big day, while make-up artist Dearbhla Keenan and hairstylist Christian Shannon from Brown Sugar showcased the best bridal looks and shared insider tips sure to inspire.

Dearbhla said on the day; “For your hair and make-up trial, hold off until three months before the wedding. If you come too early, you may not.be able to answer every question for your artist or hairstylist. You might want to do your trial on the day of your hen party, but it’s much better to do it on a day when you’re not thinking about other things.”

A 7-Step Guide For Brides:

1. Foundation: Hydrate your lips and skin with Poco Beauty’s Skinfood and Universal Glow – Dearbhla swears by them. She uses Nars Light Reflecting foundation and Nars Sheer Glow foundation as “lovely lightweight products with good longevity, similar to the consistency of Armani Luminous Silk foundation with a bit more grip, so it lasts a lot longer”.  She alternates between Maybelline Eraser and Poco Beauty Skintuition concealer.

2. Bronzer: “I use Physicians Formula powder bronzer that turns to cream and creates a really nice glow, while having the longevity of a powder product.”

3. Blush: “I like Cream Luxe blush by Sculpted By Aimee topped with a matte powder blush. I’m a big fan of Nars Powder Blush in shade Orgasm!”.

4. Eyes:Irish beauty is smashing it at the moment, so for eyes I use Hildun Beauty’s Naked Diamonds Luxe Eyeshadow Quad. There’s a slight sparkle to it, but when you’re out of direct light it almost looks wet.”

5. Lips: “If you’ve got natural colour in your lips, definitely enhance it. Don’t try to nude it out just because you think you should have a nude lip. It can can make your face look drained.” Dearbhla recommends lipstick a few shades deeper than your natural colour, such as Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk (Medium) and Sarah Keary‘s Going To The Chapel.

6. Lashes: “With fake lashes, it’s key for people to know that it’s not about creating length, but about fullness. If you have fuller bottom lashes and you don’t put mascara on, they look really unfinished, but if they’re sparce you don’t need to.”

7. Brows: Dearbhla recommends Schwarzkopf if the hair is full and Brow Aid to fill in gaps.

She pointed out that all of these tips apply to the whole wedding party and there are so many options out there that we’re spoiled for choice, adding; “However, I recommend keeping your bag simple and light – only include lip products and something easy like Hildun Beauty stick bronzer and blusher, then ask your bridesmaids to keep some powder, but you shouldn’t need much on the day.”
