Set your alarms for April 16 as iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg takes on home decor in new H&M Home collaboration …
“The only rule for home decoration is for the decor to reflect who you are – and for you to be incredibly comfortable in it,” says Diane von Furstenberg. Never before have we spent so much times in our homes as this past year. Home has been our safe place throughout these trying times and many of us have made updates (big and small) to make them more comfortable – more suited to us and our new lives. Our homes have been worked hard; they have become our school, restaurant, café, office, cinema, play centre, cocktail bar. And they have served us well. But now it’s time to re-energise our spaces as we begin to prepare for life after lockdown.
The Diane von Furstenberg collection for H&M Home is a breath of fresh air. Known for her creative approach to colour and pattern, the Belgian designer became popular in the 1970s in New York. Her most famous piece is the wrap dress, first introduced in 1974. The versatile, easy to wear piece has been worn by women ever since. “When I was growing up, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew what kind of woman I wanted to be. I wanted to be a woman in charge. And I became that woman in charge because of a dress. And because of that dress, other women became in charge. And so little by little, when people say, ‘Who do you design for?’ I always say, ‘I design for the woman in charge’.”
Synonymous with print, pattern and playful colour palettes, DVF’s signature style can now find a place in your home with a unique collection of interior decor pieces. Think colourful cushions and wool blankets, lacquered boxes and trays in contrasting black and white, luxurious scented candles, statement posters and even a robe for lounging around in at home.
The interior details in the H&M Home collection are all adorned with bold patterns and colours; from leopard and zebra prints in pink and orange, to the famous red lips taken from the 1977 Andy Warhol portrait of Diane von Furstenberg and a print based on the designer’s own signature.
