Add ambiance and gorgeous scents to your home with these new Irish seasonal candles
Rathbornes X Maser
Rathbornes have just launched an exclusive collaboration with Irish artist Al Maser, with whom they have created and designed a limited edition fragrance collection. This collaboration combines the old with the new; Rathbornes are the oldest candle makers in the world, while Maser’s modern graphic style and bright colours energises the collection.
Maser was very much involved throughout the production process and explains his inspiration: “During lockdown when I had some downtime, I began to hike and explore the Irish countryside, where I used to go to art camp. I was hugely inspired by the scents of nature and wanted to incorporate them into the design and the candle scent, bringing the outdoors back indoors.”
The beautifully packaged hand poured candles and reed diffusers feature top notes of dark plum and davana, blended with saffron on a base of smoked cedarwood, aged leather suede and amber. The candles are made with natural wax consisting of beeswax, rapeseed, and coconut with up to 80 hours burn time.
Maser X Rathbornes is exclusive to at Brown Thomas Dublin. From November the collection will be available from the Kilkenny Shop, Nassau Street, Dublin and selected Meadows & Byrne stores. The three-wick candle is €150 and the reed diffuser is €100, also available from www.rathbornes1488.com
The Home Moment
The forte of The Home Moment is in sensory-based, therapeutic, sustainable candle products. The Home Discovery Set, €69.95, has just launched with the aim of enhancing the ambiance of each room of your home by “dressing” it with scent. The set includes Amber, On The Vine, Exotic Rose and Turf candles, which Deirdre Young, co-founder of The Home Moment, explains were carefully selected.
“Amber is beneficial for relaxation and stress relief, and it has been shown to help relieve anxiety and ease depression, so works beautifully in the bedroom. The On The Vine candle with its fresh tomato, citrus and basil undertones complements fragrances in the kitchen. The Exotic Rose candle gives a spa-like experience in your bathroom. Relax in the bath and listen to our bespoke rainforest sound bath! The Turf candle is perfect for cosying up on the couch with a good book in the sitting room.”
The Home Moment candles come in 180ml and 500ml and are hand poured using soy wax and a 10 per cent scent load; each candle has a bespoke soundscape too!; www.thehomemoment.com

Sass & Boho
Laura McNamee has been making her unique blend of soy and coconut wax candles in Co Tyrone since 2014. All products are vegan, eco-friendly and sustainably and ethically sourced. I’ve been burning the Amber & Myrrh Intense, £32, this week and love its luxurious, oriental fragrance which transports me back to time spent in the Middle East. Top notes of lemon and bergamot combine with heart notes of camomile, jasmine, lavender and ylang ylang with base notes of cedarwood, amber, vanilla and myrrh. Each candle has a 70 hour burn time; www.sassandboho.com. Pic: @sassandboho
