The consensus on footwear is a tad ‘anything goes’ this season. Thigh-grazing, wellington style galoshes have been popularised by the Instagram set; paired with anything from leather shorts and a fading tan to opaque tights and a micro-mini. While the popularity of clodhopper loafers – see Prada’s chunky, school-girl pair that have gathered momentum – has been unparalleled. It feels, much like the rest of fashion, trends and getting dressed are more like a sartorial edition of Choose Your Own Adventure. 

Throughout it all, however, there’s one style that shines for its versatility. Chunky boots have abounded the last few seasons – and don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Thank goodness, we say, as we’ve found them to be perhaps the most endearing style of all. The appeal, you see, is their versatility. A track-soled Chelsea boot makes the perfect foil for ankle-grazing jeans and a wool blazer. But is equally at home when paired with a floor-sweeping dress for a special occasion. (I wore mine to a wedding pre-lockdown and I’ve never been more happy with my decision.) Here are four pairs we really love right now …
