The deluxe spa treatment featuring the creme de la creme
The Spa at Ashford Castle has just announced exclusive treatments by cutting-edge skincare brand Augustinus Bader. The legendary hotel is the only place in Ireland where you can experience face and body treatments using the German skin expert’s excellent skincare. Seriously deluxe. We recommend the skincare, if you still have a gift voucher knocking around or need a mid-winter treat, the Rich Cream really is a skin game-changer. We’re coveting the Sofia Coppola-designed Lip Balm Tints, in three beautifully soft and flattering colours, available at Dublin and Cork Duty Free for less (€34). www.ashfordcastle.com
The cutting-edge range that’s cleaning up the haircare space
Innersense organic hair and body care now has a dedicated website for Ireland. Their excellent formulas are well worth discovering; I’ve been trying the Hair Bath (shampoo, in less fancy words) and conditioner for several months, thanks to Dawn from The Clean Beauty Edit. I soon found that I’d ditched all other hair products as I like these so much. With two American founders – Greg and Joanne Starkman, an artist and a hair stylist – Innersense takes a “wellness” approach to hair. The key lies in the “free-from” formulas, so they’re not made up of filler ingredients, but focus instead on careful and caring ingredients that are gentle, even on fine hair. In fact, they avoid some 3,000 ingredients, including synthetic fragrance.
There are refill packs, which last for ages. I’m now trying out the Detox hair mask, a mud-based mask that gets rid of product build-up on the scalp, and softens hair without being horribly messy like many mud masks. Apparently, up to 90 per cent of issues with the scalp are down to the products we’re using, so it’s worth looking at the ingredients we’re piling onto it. Innersense’s dry shampoo is an unusual foam to powder, with healthy-sounding things like quinoa and rice protein to help to gently remove oils from the scalp, without leaving any residue or film, as well as refresh with a citrus scent. Try it in the evening to have refreshed hair for the next day. The scalp massager tool is also a lovely way to ease tension in the scalp and stimulate circulation, as well as massage in the serum. The newest range is the Hair Renew Scalp Hairbath and Soothing Conditioner, focusing on scalp irritation. This isn’t cheap haircare, but as a BCorp company (and certified carbon neutral) they pay a lot of attention to detail with products that actually make your hair look and feel healthier. From €30 for shampoos and conditioner; refills are great value at €30 for 295 ml). www.innersensebeauty.ie
The eye-opening lash line
Lash artist Shona Mahon has won the Arnotts Pitch ’24 competition with her Wink With Mink eyelashes range, first launched in 2023. The brand will now be available both in store and online at Arnotts and Brown Thomas Planet Beauty. Wink With Mink lashes are reusable and easy to use at home; they’re also cruelty-free and biodegradable lash solutions. Head to the Lash Bar and see what the fuss is about: the Speedy Lash Starter Kit (€34) helps deliver flawless, long-lasting lashes in minutes, whether you prefer a more natural look or full on luxury volume, plus Mahon says they last for seven days. There’s also a Speedy Lash mini travel kit (€19) available. www.winkwithminklashes.com
