Beauty News: It’s All About Eucalyptus This Year

This leafy oil is big in beauty for 2025 – here’s why …

We’re relying on spring-like green scents to uplift us this season. Eucalyptus is in vogue for that reason, and we’re seeing it as a key ingredient in everything from skin and body care to scent, with trend-setting perfume line Le Labo launching an eau de parfum that goes big on eucalyptus. With its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, eucalyptus also makes a valuable contribution to skincare: beauty expert and brand owner Liz Earle notes that eucalyptus oil can help to reduce redness in the skin and has cooling, cleansing properties (it features in her legendary Cleanse & Polish). It’s also key for moisture in the skin, helping to tone and hydrate, and can be helpful for scalp conditions such as a dry scalp or dandruff. No wonder it features in some of our favourite beauty buys, from Augustinus Bader’s luxurious body cleanser to Avoca’s forest-inspired At Dusk range, and from soap to candles.

Here’s a selection of seven standout eucalyptus beauty and wellbeing picks, including some beautiful Irish options:

I love the idea of this eucalyptus bundle in your bathroom by Tanners Foliage from a farm in Lusk, Co Dublin. Pick your own if you’re lucky enough to have a leafy garden, but for city dwellers who want the benefits of eucalyptus Tanners say that the warmth of the shower releases the scent of the oil, helping to de-stress, soothe and wake you up in the morning. They also do bouquets for €40. The Landskein founder, Anna Guerin, buys armfuls of eucalyptus here to decorate her home in the winter, so we may just do the same for spring. @tannersfoliage

Le Labo Eucalyptus 20 eau de parfum. This bright scent is blended with labdanum: a resin that’s key in chypre perfumes. Labdanum delivers an evocative warm, sweet and almost leathery aspect, found in perfumes such as Eight & Bob. Along with cedarwood and frankincense, it sings of the great outdoors. Think forest bathing in a bottle. €205, at Brown Thomas. I also recommend DS & Durga’s Big Sur Eucalyptus eau de parfum (€178), a wet and woody fragrance that’s spicy and aromatic.

Fill your rooms with our diffusers by lovely Irish company The Nature of Things, €8; you can also use this in your bath. Another Irish brand, deDanu, also do a eucalyptus essential oil (€10). @thenatureofthings.ie @dedanuireland

For a supremely relaxing bath that steams with clouds of fresh leafy green goodness, try Olverum Bath Oil (from €35, at Space NK), with its fragrant oils of fir, rosemary, lemon, lavender and bright eucalyptus. @olverum

New York brand Malin + Goetz do a great line in eucalyptus, from hand cream and roll-on deodorant to a new body gel (€42), a fragrant smoothing and firming body serum. Cooling and unisex, this line is great for the gym.

Add Nécessaire Eucalyptus body wash (from €12, at Space NK) to your morning routine for a fresh start to your day. With eucalyptus leaf oil, along with all kinds of other fruit and seed oils, including lemon, meadowfoam and ginger, this is a brilliant daily cleanser that’s a pleasure to use (and is also certified plastic and climate neutral, cruelty-free and vegan).

Faerly stocks Hawthorn, a bath and body line made in the west of Ireland in small batches, using natural ingredients. Eucalyptus and lavender are the perfect combination in this hand and body wash (€12.50 for 200ml). @thisisfaerly

Forget wintry candles and breathe in this elegant sea-salted eucalyptus candle by Diptyque. €60, at stockists nationwide.
