Beautifully Made, Irish-Designed Clothes? Here’s Where To Find Them …

Sharon Hoey’s new AndTate collection is very special indeed …

Last year, 30 years after launching her eponymous bridal label, Dublin-based designer Sharon Hoey showed her first ever womenswear collection under the AndTate by Sharon Hoey label. The launch of her new brand followed a period of experimentation with shirtmaking for women – a longtime interest, and an important element in the new AndTate by Sharon Hoey label which includes beautifully made daywear and fabulous, simple and luxurious eveningwear. The AW21 collection was very well-received and quickly snapped up by Arnotts. It sold fast, and customers wanted more.

“We developed it carefully and in a small way, so we could respond to the market,” says Sharon. Such critical and business success is rare in the fashion business but AndTate is no ordinary start-up.

“Small ideas can grow into big projects. It was the fruitless search for the perfect white shirt for a special event that started the ball rolling – the idea of starting a new brand was born,” says Sharon. Her longevity in the fashion world helped guide decisionmaking for her new brand. “Throughout my life, as a designer in bridalwear, working with thousands of brides and their mums and sisters and friends, I have been finding out what works and what doesn’t for women, the shapes, the fabrics, the detailing.”

The brainchild of Sharon and partner Richard Tate, AndTate represents the bringing together of their 30 years in the fashion business in Ireland. Since the beginning of her career, Sharon has been celebrated for challenging traditional ideas of wedding dresses without underestimating the importance of wearability.

With the AndTate by Sharon Hoey collection, eveningwear staples such as tailored dresses, occasion skirts, beautiful pussy-bow blouses and structured yet soft tops, are softened through luxurious fabrics and subtle touches: beautifully made linings and covered buttons, underskirts and pretty collars and sleeves.

With AndTate, Sharon is among a handful of Irish designers chosen by THE GLOSS to participate in the Look the Business fashion show at THE GLOSS GALA on November 8. Attendees will see a collection of ten looks by AndTate, which will feature on Ireland’s longest catwalk. To celebrate AndTate by Sharon Hoey’s collaboration with The Gloss Gala, THE GLOSS featured a fabulous “Bubble” skirt in the October issue. The response was such that Sharon is opening her boutique on Thursday October 20 and Friday October 21 for women to visit the store, peruse the collection, be fitted and measured, and advised. It will be possible to pre-order made-to-measure pieces from the collection. “We want everything to fit beautifully, “ says Sharon. “The AndTate circular looped logo represents the threads that stitch our pieces together and binds our stories: past family, present business and our new brand.” See the collection in Arnotts and at www.andtate.com and call 01 676 2772 to make an appointment to meet Sharon.

She is the queen of no makeup makeup and even manages to make a smokey eye look subtle. When everyone else was going for heavy contour and laminated eyebrows, she continued to promote enhancing your natural features with simple tricks and smart product placement. If you have seen any of her videos, you will notice how little product she actually uses. Even Victoria Beckham commented how surprised she was when she went to remove her makeup after a shoot with Lisa on how little product was applied.
