An Irish Chandler Candle Makes a Great Christmas Gift

Let the great outdoors into your home with Lisa Barnett’s natural wax candles… a wonderful gift for someone on your list this christmas.

Lisa Barnett has been making natural wax candles that celebrate aspects of the Irish countryside since 2017, at her base in Lisdoonvarna, Co Clare, between the landscapes of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. It all started as a hobby –a family member was allergic to paraffin wax (the basis of many high-street candles), so Barnett began researching cleaner methods, as a hobby, and got hooked on candle-making, using cotton core wicks and soy wax to create non-toxic and longer-burning scented candles.

She is inspired by the mood and magic of the Wild Atlantic Way – fragrance notes include bog cotton, wild iris, green moss and montbretia – and the Atlantic candle (as pictured below), an atmospheric blend of sea salt, citrus and wood sage, is her bestseller.

Barnett is now producing hundreds of candles every week, with everything still handmade in Lisdoonvarna. There’s a limited collection of scents available each season, and they sell out fast. Currently, we love her take on Irish coffee, Cupan Caife. And it’s just the beginning.

“I have just finished testing a brand-new range that will not only include new fragrances but also new products too, so right now I am really excited for 2023,” says Barnett.

Candles from €11, with large candles at €25 (300ml, with 50 hours’ burn time). Stocked at a variety of stores around the country, including This Must Be The Place in Westport. www.theirishchandler.com.
