An Art Collector’s Dream Home In Paris Fit For A Gallery

A smart Paris pad is the cool, classic backdrop for the owner’s art collection …

I’ve always dreamt of living on Rue de Verneuil, one of my favourite streets in Paris. It’s a charming neighbourhood, with its galleries, antique shops, and bookstores, just a stone’s throw from Saint-Germaindes- Prés and the Right Bank,” says art dealer Charles Geoffrion. “Serge Gainsbourg and Jean-Michel Frank once lived on this street.”

The salon, with parquet floors, alabaster fireplace, and vintage chairs.

Geoffrion’s home is minimalist, with white walls, parquet floors, and a classical alabaster fireplace in the salon. Colour is added via furniture, books, objects, and art. Geoffrion does not think like a decorator but is engaged in the same pursuit of beauty and comfort as any professional interior designer.

Cool white walls give the apartment the air of a gallery.

The bedroom, with Marie Hazard woven textile on the wall.

“I’ve been collecting art for several years. A three dimensional green painting by the little-known French artist Jean-Jacques Surian called Tarzan Memorial from 1972, which I bought at an auction a few years ago, has become my home icon – everyone who visits loves it and gets attached to it! I like my weavings by Marie Hazard, my surreal gouaches by Félix Labisse, my distorted portraits by Jewish Polish artist Maryan, and, of course, my drawing by Magritte, La leçon de musique, which is the most beautiful piece I have. Magritte is maybe my favourite painter from the 20th century. It was my dream to be able to own one of his works.” From Paris Living by Ricardo Labougle, published by Vendome.
