East Village meets East London in Alexa Chung’s latest collaboration with Madewell, which heroes the slip dress trend …
It’s been fifteen years since Alexa Chung first partnered with US fashion brand Madewell and, three collaborations later, her just-dropped edit is as covetable as ever. The 31-piece collection sees Chung particularly on form, revisiting the key pieces that we’ve come to know and love as hallmarks of her evocative personal style. So much so, it almost feels nostalgic to view the boyfriend jeans (remember those? It’s not just about barrel legs), striped knits, mannish overcoats and logo hoodies, which playfully riff on the I Heart NY motif, that form the latest Alexa Chung for Madewell drop. It’s like dipping a toe back in time to 2010, or alternatively, it’s a prescient reminder that good style never dates.
The partywear is worth noting, too. Of course, there is a black tuxedo blazer which appears to have an excellent cut (at least, it does in the campaign images where Chung prowls the streets of Soho, perfectly attired to hunt down the next soirée), which is de rigueur for party dressing. However, we couldn’t help but notice the addition of another cool-girl party staple: the slip. The Courtney slip dress (a nod, we’d imagine, to Courtney Love) which comes in black and white, is both a nod to 90s dressing as well as Parisian chic – Chung wore something similar when she modelled in the Chloé AW25 runway show earlier this year, it was also styled with flats and a bohemian pendant chain necklace (see below) – and a toast to Chung’s I’m-with-the-band persona of yore.

While the ‘It’ girl has grown up since her days of presenting Popworld, the slip dress is a nod to the Tumblr era that Chung came of age in that’s seen a revival thanks to 2025’s messy girl aesthetic. Shall we all have Chung’s easy allure if we too slip one on for a Christmas outing? We can only hope.
