A Timeless Space In The Sky: See Inside This Manchester Penthouse

Calm, curated and comfortable …

“The brief was to a craft a ‘timeless space in the sky’ for a client relocating to Manchester from London – a sanctuary that still embraces the vibrancy of city life,” explains designer Simon Mayhew, founder of TXTURED.

Spanning 1,452sq ft, the duplex has been reimagined to celebrate light, warmth and flow, transforming what was once a disjointed layout into a cohesive home. “This project was about creating connection and atmosphere,” says Mayhew. “Every material, curve and tone was chosen to create a rhythm throughout the apartment. We wanted the space to feel timeless but personal.”

The open-plan living and dining area is a masterclass in layered luxury. A Restoration Hardware sofa and armchair anchor the living space, complemented by side tables from Six The Residence and sculptural shelving by Libra. The TV wall was softened with bespoke wooden veneer panelling, finished in a marble effect. This design detail adds depth and dimension, transforming what could be a stark black box into a striking focal point. Soft curtains divide the space, offering the flexibility to switch between entertaining and a more intimate evening retreat.

The walls, painted in COAT’s Mindful hue, create a calm backdrop combined with Dior cushions and throws, and a Huggable rug. In the dining space, contemporary pieces from Ziba Homes are in keeping with the home’s relaxed aesthetic.

Adding a playful note is Graham & Brown’s Balloon Race mural, a remastered archive design celebrating the early history of ballooning, juxtaposed against a statement sideboard from Olivia’s.

The sculpted, minimalist kitchen features a white granite worktop and splashback with soft grey veining. Overhead, Soho Home lighting casts a warm glow while bouclé bar stools from Six The Residence and bespoke 3M textured wrapping elevates the cabinetry, adding a tactile layer that subtly shifts with the light. The existing flooring was retained, grounding the space in its original architectural character.

In the master bedroom, a Soho Home bed and headboard are complemented by matching lighting, bed linen and cushions. The walls, painted in COAT’s Cold Brew, infuse warmth and depth, with curtains from Simon Boyd.

Every element within the penthouse was considered to create a home that feels collected, not constructed. “We’re so proud that the vision and craftsmanship has been recognised with a prestigious International Property Award, reflecting our commitment to storytelling through design,” says Mayhew.
